How to het Parisian/French chic on a budget?

Niftythrifter · 10/01/2023 22:34

I like the simplicity of Parisian style/French chic and I believe that I have some of the items that would fall in to that aesthetic/way such as cashmere jumpers however I like the look of Sezanne. Rouje, Maje and B&sh and whilst I have been lucky enough to find a Maje cardigan in the charity shop I haven’t found any of the other labels and they are out of my budget. Are there any places I should be looking to get similar pieces that these labels have for less but still good quality?

if anyone else likes Parisian/ French chic then I would love to hear your tips and what pieces you recommend and Pinterest creators etc that you follow for inspiration.

I watched this yesterday and it might interest you. Jess does a lot on Parisian style and here she picks pieces from H&M to recreate her looks. YouTube link

I have looked at a couple of wide leg trousers and knitted jumpers on here but I've never used this site before, may order a see what it's like. Some nice things but not sure of quality.

Lou834 · 11/01/2023 07:37

Help if I added the name of the site!
.......Cider is the website I've been browsing

TheOGCCL · 11/01/2023 09:17

I think French style is often about basics and minimalism and how things are put together so this is theoretically buildable from a range of shops and price points.

Have you tried La Redoute? They sell some quite expensive brands but also discount quite a lot and they also have their own ranges which are not particularly expensive. And they do a credit account so you can try and return at no cost except postage.

BringMeTea · 11/01/2023 09:28

As pp says La Redoute. They even have a section called 'Parisian Style'.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 11/01/2023 13:12

@Lou834 ooo, I’ve looked at that website. If you order anything from there, would you please update with what the service/quality is like, please?

IWasFunBeforeMum · 11/01/2023 13:13

Cider is Shein I think

HangoverSquare · 11/01/2023 13:22

Do you look on Vinted?

newrubylane · 11/01/2023 13:37

I found www.siamoise.fr/en/collections/nouveautes
Which is French and had a very Sezane feel with a slightly more affordable price tag. Can't vouch for the quality or shipping etc.

I am addicted to eBay and Vinted, and they have all the brands you’re targeting. Last year I saw a ba&sh blouse on Erin Busbee’s YouTube and thought it looked amazing. I looked for it online and it was around £200 - not in my budget! I found it on Vinted in my size a couple of months ago and snapped it up for £35. I’m so chuffed!

I have bought 4 ba&sh blouses since starting my spree, and have spent around £100 in total on them. I’m thrilled with them.

Have fun looking! Warning though, it is really easy to get lost down a rabbit hole!

Niftythrifter · 11/01/2023 18:55

@Mommybunny What is the sizing like for B&sh?

I hover between 10/12 uk and their size 2 blouses fit well. Haven’t tried any other articles of clothing.

Niftythrifter · 11/01/2023 19:24

@Mommybunny its blouses that I am interested in too.

If you’re larger than a size 14 you will struggle to find anything (their sizing is on what I think is called 0-5, which I think a lot of that bracket of French brands do, with a 0 being U.K. 8 and 5 being U.K. 18-20 and ba&sh don’t seem to do any sizes larger than 3). Don’t know if that helps.

Niftythrifter · 11/01/2023 19:39

That does help. I’m a 6/8 uk so that hopefully means a 1 would be the correct size.

That sounds about right. I’ve found there’s plenty to be had in that size, and you’re not competing with me for bargains! 😉

DuchessOfSausage · 11/01/2023 19:49

Uniqlo's Ines de la Fressange range

Niftythrifter · 11/01/2023 21:01

@Mommybunny haha! @DuchessOfSausage My favourite blouse is one from her range which I picked up in a charity shop and have loved ever since! I really get my moneys worth with that blouse!

I love all the brands you've listed but as you say, all very expensive.

Outside of sales, I also scour ebay for bargains. One of my best finds was an Isabel Marant blouse for £25!

Niftythrifter · 13/01/2023 22:09

@Calphurnia88 ooh bargain!
