Mom jeans - are they supposed to be short?

I am sick to death of skinny jeans, I even wear them to work and am in a complete rut.

I have bought some mom jeans in the sale from Asda. I tried them on at home and am not sure they look as good on me as they do in others! are they supposed to be short? I can’t roll them up as they’re already above the ankle. I wear them with white trainers I’m guessing? One pair are pale wash and have ripped knees, the others are a mid blue no rips.

For reference I am 47, 5’9” and a size 16. Not sure if I’m making a huge fashion mistake and any advice would be great.

Yes they come up short, quite a bit above your ankle.

I think rather than short they are meant to be the correct length with no rolling. Before you rip off the tags on your mom jeans, have you tried girlfriend jeans? www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/girlfriend-jeans/sty-t0370 Which can be left as they are in terms of the hem or can be rolled up ( perfect in summer).
It might be worth making a trip to M and S and trying on lots of their jeans that are t skinny to see what you like. They have a jeans section and then jeans in their Per Una range.

No I don't think they are supposed to be short; it's probably your height. Check out longtallsally. It's gone way downhill since sold but they do have a variety of jeans.

I think they are meant to be on the shorter side, the idea being as they are baggier they show off the ankle (which is normally a slim part, particularly in comparison to the arse which this type of jean tends to emphasise). Normally mom jeans have a very high rise so this should stop the legs from looking short.

I think they look nice with high top trainers/Converse, it’s a much looser silhouette than skinnies so may take a while to get used to. Some of it is about mindset as we have been programmed over the years to think skinnies are flattering/elegant/stylish and looser shapes can at first seem a bit messy.
