Urgent new dress needed

Been invited to a party at an upmarket venue up in greater Manchester. What should I wear? I'm mostly in jeans and doc martens going out down here, definitely rock vibes but this isn't that kind of event (host is 60) what on earth do I wear, budget to £100 (have good black heels suited to a smart outfit of aforementioned docs). I read people definitely dress up more further north, is this right?

What about a jumpsuit - something from Nancy Mac or Onjenu?

GettingStuffed · 05/01/2023 17:37

This is smart but could also be dressed down for casual www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350272743.aspx#shoppingtool=externalcampaign

That’s lovely @GettingStuffed

What kind of dress are you thinking of? Long, short?

sunnydayys · 05/01/2023 19:36

I live in Manchester...what venue?
I can probably help with dress code

Niftythrifter · 05/01/2023 19:40

Look at Anthropologie. They have some lovely dresses in the sale and I am sure there are other lovely things if dresses aren’t your thing.

I was just thinking the same!

Update, dress code is smart casual. I'm size 16 and jumpsuits do not suit me. Probably a dress - knee length or a bit above perhaps? Near major mall and city centre 10 miles away so most shops near

Montague22 · 07/01/2023 23:55

What sort of style do you like?

Rina66 · 08/01/2023 06:43

Love the River Island one @Montague22

It depends which city you are in as to how dressy people are. Manchester is definitely not a dressy place imo. Every time I go, I feel overdressed. Mostly see people in flats - chunky boots, trainers etc. does depend on the exact venue though.

yoshiblue · 08/01/2023 08:37

Manchester isn't generally dressy, not like Liverpool! Though with you saying Greater Manchester that could be anywhere? Eg old work friends in Bolton would get very dressed up. What is the specific venue/part of Greater Manchester?

I'd go for a dress that you can dress up with heels but also wear with doc martins another time.
