Is a mini dress ok for a work Christmas party?

I know it depends a lot on your workplace but just wondering your opinions on mini/short dresses for a Christmas party.

Our work Christmas do is in January this year and there is a black strappy sequin dress I have which I love and would wear with black tights and black heels. It is short though, would you think this was inappropriate if you saw a colleague wearing it?

I’m slim (size 8) with a small chest so no cleavage will be on show. I am unsure and will probably ask around to find out what other colleagues are wearing, but just wanted to get some opinions here too.

this isn’t the exact dress but the outfit will probably look a bit like this:

It looks fine to me.
Some of my team wore short dresses on our works do and looked gorgeous.
I think it depends on the event. Ours was a big party night so completely appropriate and normal.

Well, I like it a lot, and I've seen some very dodgy outfits at work do's!
But, @Cafeaulait27 , if you're not sure then choose something else so you're not worrying and spoiling your night!
But, is it the sort you could wear fancy leggings with? Or the deep black tights that you can't see through?
I'm lost on tights these days!

OP it doesn’t depend a lot on the workplace, it depends entirely on the workplace.

Just avoid the expression on the model though 😣.

And nice to avoid male created negative terms like “slutty” too. Although l appreciate that in this context you are commenting about your own appearance in the dress. x

I think it's fine. There's a lot of weird puritanical people on this thread. You're not showing anything to shouldn't. Go for it.

I feel pretty much like this. There’s nothing wrong with it. I’m short and short dresses suit me better than longer. Not that it should matter but the fact you won’t have lots of cleavage on show does probably make a difference. I’d wear something like that except I hate sequins as my hair always gets caught in them!

Oh… I didn’t notice. How annoying!

Thanks everyone, all very useful replies. I agree that if there’s any doubt in my mind it’s probably a no! Really wanted to wear it but agree it’s probably best saved for a non work event.

I don’t want to be heading to the party wondering if I’m going to look inappropriate 😅

It's a lovely dress but if you already feel uneasy about wearing it, to the degree that you need to start a thread about it, I'd wear something more "conservative"

FizzyLaser · 01/11/2023 06:48

Rubbish. It’s great

It’s lovely
don’t listen to the ridiculous responses here

Absolutely, only listen to Charliehaus, no one else's opinion matters at all OP. 🤣

I think what you describe sounds lovely OP, but if you're going to be worrying all night if it's appropriate, then it's probably best to go for something that you feel comfortable wearing.

@Puffypuffin To be honest I don't think anyone's opinion matters now. The party was last year!!
