I've been getting blonde highlights for a couple of years now
I want to go back to a warm rich chocolate brown
Can anyone recommend any box dyes or even how I can colour at home with professional products?
My hairdressers want £170 and I just can't justify this at the min

I don't want to go black !

If you put an ash based brown box dye over bleached blonde hair, you are, in theory likely to end up with a khaki coloured hue. However, I did manage to achieve going darker myself from blonde highlighted hair a couple of years ago.

I’m sure I used the Garnier Belle colour Very Light Brown to start things off (I wanted to be brunette again like yourself) that must have darkened the blonde enough for me to have used a darker shade. I then probably chose something like brown, nothing with ash in it, so keeping to the warm based ones so I could avoid any khaki hues. You could, but I’m not suggesting you do, try a warm chestnut brown in a semi permanent colour, the chestnut should have a reddish hue so it won’t risk any green tinges. Do a strand test whatever you decide first though. You shouldn’t end up with black hair either as long as you don’t choose a very dark brown colour.

I have done this many many times over the years. Just chose something slightly lighter than the result you want, it's easy to go darker next time but if it's too dark it'll be difficult to lift straight away. You'll probably find the dye doesn't cling as well to the hi lighted hair and they might fade slightly but that tends to be a good thing as you get a more natural look after a few weeks. Good luck

Should have added, Nice and Easy have a good range of colours and usually give good, lasting results

Shop around some other salons for quotes - that's extremely expensive. How does it compare to the price of your highlights?

You need to dye your hair red first, I think it's called filler pigment (?), otherwise the yellow from the bleached hair and the blue/purpley base of a lot of brown hair dyes will mean it has a green tinge.

Bleach London do a kit specifically for this is think, for going from blonde to brown, which has the red stage included in the pack.
