Want to start again with my clothes - any tips please?

I’m 47 & have lost all sense of what to wear. My wardrobe is full of mismatched items, often impulse sale purchases.
I have adhd & find it hard to put outfits together. I spend ages going down rabbit holes online looking for ‘the perfect’ jeans, jumper etc only to either buy nothing or order it & then it’s no good so spend more time sending it back.

I am 5’3” size 12 with a bit of a tummy. I have let myself go a bit since lockdown & need to improve my diet, skincare etc. I don’t know where to shop anymore. I used to love Oasis & Warehouse but not so much since they went solely online. I either feel too old or too young for certain shops. I like the look of Hush but what I’ve ordered from there before didn’t look right on me. I struggle with trousers as always too long.

I don’t want loads of clothes, I would rather have less clothes but spend a bit more on them. I just want a few things that work well together & that make me feel good. I work in an office which is fairly casual but I still like to look professional. At home I’d like to be comfortable but still look nice. I need an outfit for going out for an evening (this doesn’t happen often!). I feel like I need some set ‘go to’ outfits for different occasions & shoes/bag to go with it - I want to take the stress out of deciding what to wear & just know I have something nice in the wardrobe.

I want to go through my wardrobe before going back to work in the new year & start afresh but I really don’t know how to go about it. Has anyone else done this or can anyone give me some suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

I am a similar size to you. I have a 'uniform' of straight leg jeans; these are replacements of skinnies. I also like to wear a shorter black skirt with thick tights and then a jumper or top in a colour that suits me - brighter generally now that I'm getting older.

M and S is good for these sorts of things.

Black chunkier boots go well with the jeans or the skirts and so it doesn't take too much thinking.

Over the top I wear a longer coat, either a wool one for smarter days or a longer puffy coat for casual.

Hope this helps. I am mid 40s and not a fashionista but this takes the stress out of it for me!
