Night out in London. Stylish or warm/ dry?

Tomorrow night. It sounds like it will be about 10 degrees so relatively mild but could be very wet.

I have a nice dress to wear, long sleeves and mid calf length but flimsy "evening" material. I'll wear it with ankle boots and bare (Sally Hansen) legs. I've tried it with tights and they ruin the way the dress hangs. Plus I think tights are too hot for dancing.

Anyway a coat. I can either wear a wool biker jacket, which is probably the one that looks best, my Jaeger long wool coat, which is as old(fashioned) as it sounds, my old faithful Seasalt wind and waterproof coat or a Berghaus long puffa coat. I did order a red fake fur coat but it hasn't come in time 😥

I'm usually most definitely function over form (see the SeaSalt coat) but for this occasion it may well be a step too far even for me.

We're starting off with an early dinner/v late lunch somewhere quite fancy, then bar hoping across London for dancing later on and will be travelling back by train with a walk at the other end, so outdoors quite a bit, but also indoors where it could be hot and crowded too.

I think also maybe on an evening like this, you have to be prepared to lose your coat? I had a jumper stolen from the back of a chair I was sitting on in a West End pub once.
WWYD?

Can't you wear tights in the day then take them off if you go dancing?

I would wear waterproofs. Wool in wet weather ends up smelling like dog.

I’d wear tights and definitely a waterproof/warm coat that can be stripped off with a really nice dress underneath. A dress that doesn’t work with tights would be packed away until summer because fake tan doesn’t hide goosebumps and isn’t a great look (at least on me as I’m always freezing!). I wouldn’t wear wool in the rain, it can get a bit whiffy. Just throw the coat on a chair within sight if there’s no coat check. If it’s not a Canada Goose or Moncler or something mega flash then I doubt it’ll be a target, the jumper was probably just unlucky!

How much outside time is there going to be?

You will take a coat off, so I'd probably go for the berghaus if there's a chance of rain. 10 degrees I wouldn't bother with tights for just walking to venue if you have a long coat

I'd wear one of the wool options and take an umbrella. %0 of rain by 7pm so could buy a cheap one and dump it if it becomes cumbersome. I've never lost an item of clothing anywhere in London.

I'd check you aren't affected by train strikes! Most ppl are tomorrow
