Perfumes that last

Hi all,
I'm looking for perfume help. When I was young and a women warning perfume entered the room, you were able to smell the lovely scent through the room and as they walked past. Nowadays perfumes seem to be very light and can only be smelled when standing right next to the perfume. Does anyone have suggestions for stronger perfumes which be smelt when entering and walking around a room and perfumes that will last throughout the day? Thanks

It's really to do with ingredients and types of perfume.
No citrus based scent (or the "ozonic" ones that became popular in the 90s will last very long. Most of the perfumes mentioned above aren't citrussy.
Also strength - extrait or eau de parfum will last longer than toilette. (this is why Jo Malones don't have much longevity as they're colognes which are weaker still)

Of course, Oudh based scents will still be wafting in the air about a thousand years after the last person ever wore them. 😁

On Perfume Parlour you can search by longetivty. I really love their perfumes and it's the only place I buy from:

Second Chanel fragrances. Little goes a long way but can still smell them the day after. CK Obsession and Narciso Rodriguez for her are both strong too.

I love perfume but agree, a super strong scent is not appropriate in certain situations. I wouldn’t wear my Chanel ones to the office as I know my boss is a migraine sufferer and it would be too overpowering in our smallish office space.

I would not want to wear so much perfume that it stank the room out and aggrivated allergies, but I would like it to be there and smellable at close quarters for longer than fifteen minutes.

I have lots of perfumes. In my experience the ones that project or leave trail best are Alien and Angel by Thierry Mughler, Portrait of a Lady by Frederick Malle, Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, Oud Satin Mood by Francis Kurkdijan, Coromandel by Chanel, Private Collection by Estee Lauder.

I used to love Ralph Lauren (the plain blue one) as a teenager, wore it well into my 20s. Does anybody know of a more grown up version? Sorry don't want to hijack, but don't feel it warrants my own thread!

Coco Mademoiselle llasts on clothes through laundering and ironing in my experience..

It's the most adhesive in my perfume wardrobe.

I agree. A little goes a long way. It gets lodged in your nose.

This is such a brilliant question! I’m loving all the answers…

Santal 33 lasts for ages.

Yes, I was coming on to say Santal 33

@SavouryFlavour Thank you for bringing back the memory of Magie Noire - loved that perfume!
Agree that Estée Lauder perfumes are long lasting - love Knowing. Also Blanc by the White Company and Miss Dior Original.

Ester Lauder youth dew lasts all day .
Ugliest bottle ever and a very love or hate it smell but my favourite at the minute 🤷‍♀️

It wasn't 'Ralph' was it?

Guerlain Insolence. Luca Turin famously described it as a "Godzilla floral". It lasts for weeks.

WhereAreWeNow · 22/12/2022 22:10

My favourite winter perfumes - Halfeti, Serge Lutens Femininte du Bois, and Coco Chanel - are all really powerful and one spray lasts forever. My summer scents (rose, citrus) don't last at all.

Jinglebellrocks · 22/12/2022 22:48

@AmazonPrim yes, it had/has a blue stripe on the bottle. I loved it but as have gotten older I want a more grown up scent, but want a similar vibe to that. I miss Debehams where I could test them!

I'm going to be the killjoy here and say that much as I LOVE perfumes, I really hate being able to smell peoples choices from a distance of more than a couple of feet. It's obnoxious and ( from my point of view) often favoured by people who like incredibly sweet gourmands and/or shriekingly 'loud' scents. I'm looking at you, Angel and Aromatics Elixr ( which I do quite like, but everyone oversprays imo).

Everyone goes nose-blind to their own scents after a while, so I just want to advocate for a little restraint! Grin

I’m glad someone else feels this.

When someone walks past and you get a massive whiff it just feels really dated 😬

Thanks all. There are some great suggestions here. I'm taking these suggestions to Myer to do a 'sniff test' and find a great new scent. I appreciate the horror of being stuck near someone with a very strong scent! My problem is that I can't seem to smell a perfume I spray on myself 1 hour after I've sprayed it. I bought an expensive bottle of Burberry hoping for the best and 1 hour later I didn't even know I had sprayed. I want to shake someone's hand and have them get a gentle whiff of a lovely aroma 😁

I tried on the Billie Eillish perfume the other day and it lasted all day - it was nicer then I thought it would be as it's quite sweet smelling, plus DD wanted to try it!
Jo Malone lasts a while on me
