Is my interview outfit OK?

Have two interviews next week at rather well known public schools, I bought a new interview outfit today of a dress and matching jacket and thought it really looked the part but my mum has just said I should ahve gone with a more traditinal trouser suit. Should I change it? I have tried to be conservative but keep my style if that makes sense as there is no point pretending to be someone I am not.

this dress

Have just seen they do this jacket to go with it which I didn't buy as it was not with the dress but with a drab looking suit so I avoided it, would I have been better off getting the proper jacket

I bought a green/brown fitted tweed jacket as I thought all brown was a bit dull and an olive green chunky beaded necklace. Have some very smart brown heels and brown tights.

It is from marks' so can be changed very easily but dp says it was by far the nicest outfit and I tried on every suit.

I love the dress and if you feel comfortable and yourself in it, then go for it!

I had an interview last week and went to M&S beforehand to buy something smart. Tried on tons of trousers, hated them and ended up buying a long black skirt and blouse and put a black jacket on top - sorted. Felt fab so didn't care.

Good luck!

It sounds fabulous; I love those colours and think you were definitely right to not buy the matching jacket. Keep your own style, it will help you to feel more confident. Good luck with the interview, so glad you are feeling better.

Thankyou, it does look lovely on and IMO the jacket in another colour just lifts it.

I think it looks nice. If it is a really traditional school they might prefer skirts / dresses to trousers anyway. Are there any photos of women teachers on the prospectus to help you decide?

Thanks, I applied for the posts thinking never in a million years but it just goes to show it is always worth trying.

I am feeling much better - am at home now and have been so for about a week. It isn;t perfect but about as close as I have been for a long while.

The dress is great and I agree a different coloured jacket will lift it as well as the accessories you describe.

I bet you'll look fantastic.

Best of luck!

I have been to the school and they seemed to dress like me ie cordinating clothes rather than suits, or suits that were not corportate, for example someone had a suit on from Monsoon that I also have. That was on an open day so they were dressed for best as well.

I think my mum is just being over cautious, she knows how much it means to me and wants everything to be right.

It sounds lovely and will stand out amongst all the black, if teaching interviews I've been on are anything to go by.

Good luck!

Sounds like you have done your research right then, and it is a nice outfit. Hope it goes well!

twinsetandpearls · 02/02/2008 21:59

I tried on a black suit and although it was very smart it just was not me and dp said I looked very uncomfortable and stiff in it, and as I have to teach on the interviews I need to feel relaxed - well as relaxed as possible.

Yes, it sounds as though you've absolutely gone for the right option. What do you have to teach? Nosey emoticon!!

Love the dress, very glam, I'd never pick that out as an M&S dress, also really like the jacket you linked to, though am sure your chioce is great too.
Good luck with the interview......
