Ok need help! What is a good foundation that lasts all day but not too obvious that you're wearing make up?

Wondering if you have any tips? Went to buy some today but it is a minefield!

Any recommendations? Most of the ladies working behind the counters looked like they used at least 2 bottles on their face daily or were positively orange! Just want someting covering but not too obvious for daily wear!

Have blotchy red skin with spots (around period time that is) and not the smoothest skin either!
Many thanks!

Minerla make up!!!!

There are expensive ones, but Avon of all peeps do a good oine for less poundage. I use it myself, tis great!

SheikYerbouti · 02/02/2008 20:08

Soory. MINERAL

Red wine on board

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/02/2008 20:11

I use Estee Lauder Lucidity - its so lovely -very light and lasts a long time - still have quite a bit left of a bottle that I bought in the summer.

The best thing to do is put it on with a foundation brush - much better and even coverage without having to use as much foundation. I also found that putting foundation on right after I've put my moisturiser on helps it go on easier

pickie · 02/02/2008 20:11

Ah glad you started of with the mineral one as heard about it but where can you buy it? Also like to try before I buy so to speak!

Off now to get some wine

PS - Sheik - when I first saw your nick I thought maybe you were Arab in origin or something and then it finally dawned on me it was a play on shake your booty.....

mylovelymonster · 02/02/2008 20:15

Yes mineral great - no tell-tale lines under chin and looks/feels natural. Not sure if would look fab ALL day, but could pop in bag for very easy touch up. Can mix with fave face-cream for slightly heavier coverage, really good at concealing red/blotches and colour matching not such a lucky dip. No nasties to irritate your skin either. Can you tell I'm a fan?
I got mine from QVC (!) but a local beauty salon has huge range - maybe one near you - eye /cheek/lip colours too.........

pickie · 02/02/2008 20:20

MLM am thinking that as well but foundation 1st and then cheek and lip colours. After years of lack of make up, 2008 is the year where i will looking like I care how I look and not covered in DC leftovers

Another using Estee Lauders Lucidity with the Daywear moisturiser underneath it and a light dusting of loose powder on top.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 20:23

the secret, imo, is to get the right match for your skin tone, rather than the most expensive product iykwim? get ye to space nk and ask for help, they'll find you something lovely. chantecaille is great, i think, but so long as you have the right shade. minerals good if you have a good concealer for spots.

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/02/2008 20:40

I'm shallow though...I like being fawned over by salespeople when I'm buying the expensive stuff....plus I don't have to worry about it not fitting me....

pickie · 02/02/2008 20:58

Same here, shallow as well but v. pleased with myself today I didnt buy anything as kept telling myself: Ask ladies on MN, ask ladies on MN!

I use Chanel Teint innocence. Very natural and then use concealer to cover blemishes. I also use models prefer neutralising powder to take of the shine and set my make up.

Also agree that chantecille Real skin is very good but its very expensive and doesn't last very long.

divamummy2 · 02/02/2008 21:31

i agree doundation brush does make big difference. i use lancome with loose powder.

cornsilk · 02/02/2008 21:38

chanel vitalumiere

DrNortherner · 02/02/2008 21:40

I use Este Lauder Individualist

Fubsy · 03/02/2008 21:10

Another mineral fan - I use Bare Escentuals.

If Im in a hurry I use Boots intelligent colour, the one with three shades that blends with your own skin.

SnappyLaGore · 03/02/2008 21:11

no 7 intelligent foundation.
just looks like skin.

I vote Boots No. 7 Intelligent Colour - goes on beautifully even whilst trying to wrestle the tube off your toddler.

JackieNo · 03/02/2008 21:15

I like the Lily Lolo mineral foundation - stays on well, good for spot-prone skin (contains zinc, I think, which is supposed to be healing). Plus they do tiny testers (of foundation, though not of eye/lip colours, I don't think) for not much money, so you can have a go and see whether you like it.

FatBellyJones · 05/02/2008 20:10

benefit some kinda gorgeous is very light, stays all day and gives good coverage without being cakey
