Swimsuit sizing ... wtf? Also, help?

Ok, I want a swimsuit. Neither of my current swimsuits actually fit, and they're old, and I only kinda like them.

I have been looking 610 (26) here for example, and finding swimsuits I like, but what are the sizing numbers? What do they mean? Are they under-bust? Or what?

(And are Tyr swimsuits any good? I'm torn between them and Maru, nobody else seems to do a swimsuit I like - I'm after racer back, for actually swimming in, and looking like it's for swimming in. And I'm tempted by the whole 'chlorine-resistant' thing, although I do always wash my swimsuit after wearing it.)

lol at tugless, oh the glamour. i like the spotty one a lot. no i used to have norks but am now just a 36d after dd.

foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 21:19

ooh I think 36D qualifies as norks my fellow squat person

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:22

really? they used to be so lovely... now they are oddly stretchy.

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:24

36D certainly counts as Norks in my book.

foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 21:25

I bet they are still just as lovely.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:25

really? with a capital Nuh? gosh.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:26

ah. the shaped bras. no, i tried one and got a worrying smidge of cleavage wrinkle.

foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 21:26

some people find that vaaaaaary attractive

Kbear · 02/02/2008 21:33

There is a Speedo shop at Bluewater if you fancy the trek, try on 27 cossies, buy 6 (all in the sale - i was in there yesterday - £25 cossies for £7.99) and you're sorted for the next few years!!!

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:34

who? wayne rooney?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:36

Oh, we almost never make it to Bluewater, I don't drive. Don't think we can use the car tomorrow, anyway.

Tempting otherwise, though, trying them on has got to be a lot better than just peering at them ...

foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 21:38

you'd be surprised!

I'm sure quite a lot of people would fight you for your 36Ds Aitch, squidge or no squidge. We need a Harry Hill stylee fight.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:39

gosh, this is aggressive flirting, foxy, even for MN.

Kbear · 02/02/2008 21:43

I would probably order a few mail order in various sizes and try them on in the comfort of my own home. I am size 12/14 but always end up by a size 16 costume because they are too short in the body length and I'm only a short arse 5'4".

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:44

I think my torso length is standard - I've never struggled over fit because of it. (Ok, I haven't bought a cossie since I was two sizes bigger, but still.)

I suck at returning things, so the whole 'get 3 return 2' thing doesn't work for me ...

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:47

me too, nqc, i end off giving them to pals...

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:49

I just don't order clothing online, unless I'm very very sure.

I'm not that fussy about swimsuit fit, I just want one that looks fun, I'll probably just order one. I've bought ones at pools from behind the counter, when caught out - I'm pretty sure my current favourite was bought that way!

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 02/02/2008 21:51

sorry NQC I haven't a clue, I hate swimming pools and since having children I look like a man in drag in a swimming costume

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 21:52

a pregnant man in drag? that is niche. you should speak to foxy. [wink}

NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:52

Ah, fair enough.

I'm not a fan of swimming pools either, but the boys like them, and 'swimming costume' is one of the few items left on my 'replace all clothing items that don't fit' list ...

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 02/02/2008 21:53

I biked to Hyde Park and back with the kids, and didn't really eat much today, must go stuff face unless I want to have to replace it all again, whoops.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 22:21

lolol sorry Aitch .

Was trying to make you feel positive about your norks and ended up coming across all queer lol.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2008 22:22

lol. i got a doris day moment out of it, i was thrilled.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/02/2008 15:59

Hmmm, meant to try on a swimsuit today at Covent Garden, but came home with a coat instead.

I'm not sure I've got the hang of goal-oriented shopping, tbh.

(I did really need a coat, and it's nice, and was cheap.)
