First Coast, then Karen Millen and Ted Baker now Reiss

Went in to Reiss today and they are selling viscose jumpers for £100. The quality in there seems to have deteriorated since being taken over by Next. The jumpers felt like Next quality for Reiss prices. I had a beautiful Reiss skirt which I bought in the sale 20 years ago, it was lined and such good quality. I have a silk Ted Baker top from 20 years ago same quality. Sadly I couldn’t afford to buy much then and I wish I had because now I can’t find anything similar. I feel so old. Have bought a few vintage Karen Millen skirts from eBay which are lovely.

If you liked any of these brands before where are you shopping now? I would like a nice jumper made from wool or wool mix but not massively oversized. Any ideas please? I have run out of brands that I like so maybe it’s a sign to stop shopping altogether!

Vinted all the way for me now. I am not spending £££ on cheap fabrics or unlined dresses / skirts.

I was just about to come here and post similar. Me&Em want £490 for a recycled polyester suit. Recycled polyester FFS!

Fairly sure £500 will get you a wool men’s suit on the high street.

I mourn Karen Miller have some lovely.jumpers for over 10yrs now worn so many times and still going strong.

They made clothes that were just tailored but fashionable and I was happy to pay the prices they charged but not now I wouldnt.

Following as I have the same problem! Need to update my wardrobe after having 2 babies. Having not done much shopping for 3 years I now have no idea where to start! All my old favourite shops are either selling cheap rubbish for £££ or have closed down. Even shoe shops - could always rely on timberland for good quality walking/snow boots. Looks like they've gone the same way from reading reviews 😥

Maybe try the ‘country/outdoors’ places like House of Bruar or other Scottish/wool outlets. I got some cashmere cardigans which I thought were expensive a few years back but suddenly look good value and are genuinely so warm. There’s Dunedin cashmere and I got a cashmere jumper on The Royal Mile (which you’d think would be a major ripoff but wasn’t), though I did end up in the mens section as I did want oversized.

@Summerfun54321 it looks like it’s actually a viscose mix: 49% WOOL, 36% VISCOSE, 10% NYLON, 5% CASHMERE. I think I did know it was bamboo but it was thin and felt plasticky and was already creased. But then I’m always cold so need jumpers to be warm!

The higher end high street brands used to be such good quality that makes me feel a bit sad. But I suppose that’s true for a lot of things. Also I know people don’t dress up like they used to anymore so maybe that factors in. I remember looking at the beautiful dresses in KM in Covent Garden shop.

Peregrine Clothing?

Saw it recommended somewhere - might have been here. Not bought anything myself but think some of the knitwear looks good.
