When would you class a check shirt as appropriate. Would it be appropriate for say office with boots black trousers?.
What would you not wear at an office smart casual job.

I personally wouldn’t. But plenty do, I don’t think you’d look out of place.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/12/2022 20:14

The first when tucked and with smart trousers or skirt would look right, the second less so due to the cut and colour.

Has the potential to look like loungewear. You'd need to smarten them up with some thing fitted on the bottoms with some Chucky shoes perhaps? Bit of make up to show willing.

Yes fine but with smart trousers and boots/shoes

in our office which is smart/casual the only big no, no’s are jeans unless they are dark black and tailored fit (so not really baggy, faded or ripped) , Ugg boots, sports trainers or sports wear.

if I wear black jeans to work I always wear a really smart shirt or blouse plus blazer and heels.

if I want to wear my doc martens I would pair them with a dress and tights.

so really anything goes, as long as you don’t pair casual with casual.

Loose jeans, over size sweater and doc martens are too causal worn together. But separately all those items are fine

As long as they were both tucked in with smart trousers/skirt they would like fine. You could always add a blazer if you didn't think it looks smart enough.

In my office people wear scabby trainers, T-shirts and shirt or hoodie

Liorae · 25/03/2023 02:06

Floral dress with trainers is the polar opposite of smart anything.

I would say both were 'casualwear' rather than 'smart casual'.
Now, some places are happy for people to wear whatever they want to work and that's fine, but if the expectation is 'smart casual', then I don't think either of those fit the bill.

garlictwist · 25/03/2023 05:41

I would wear it but our office is definitely more at the "casual" end of the "smart casual" spectrum
