Iso a warm lightweight waterproof parka style coat/long jacket.
The perfect one will have a removable hood for when I'm cycling. A bright/light colour is preferable but then again I am lit up like a Christmas tree when I'm out on my bike after dark so it's not essential.
I'm not an athletic type. Think nearly 60, size 16/18 riding an electric bike to work rather than a svelte sporting cyclist.
I'd really appreciate some input - I've been looking at didrikson and helly hansen so far. My budget is about £200.
Thank you..... 🤞

I recently bought a Didriksons parka and love, love, love it. I wanted something waterproof - big tick - but equally if not more important something warm for standing around watching the kids at football and cross country. The Didriksons is very warm and I think it manages that without looking bulky.

Which one did you buy? There are so many to choose from!

I bought the Mea Parka. They have it in Blacks & Go Outdoors. I liked the colour and the inside pockets which made the coat less bulky on me than the ones with pockets on the outside.

I love my Didrikson. I've had it for a year. So warm.

This style might suit - www.tiso.com/apcsr1ti0195/didriksons-w-josephine-par-womens-red-apcsr1ti0195 - it has a removable hood.

Or this Passenger is a bargain.

Otherwise try Uniqlo.

Didrikson parkas are brilliant but I think I might be too hot on my bike in mine. It's not an electric bike though so I'm unsure that how hot you get riding one. They are fantastic for really cold winter weather, dog walks etc.

Saw this Didrikson parka in a Mumsnet email. 10% extra off with code. That's a bargain. Only in navy though. https://www.blacks.co.uk/16598768/didriksons-women-s-bliss-parka-16598768/?awc=1520167038715115d082fd19d9991a55eec1c445b234b97&utmsource=affiliate78888&utmmmedium=Sub+Networks&utm_campaign=Skimlinks

I bought a Didrikson off Vinted as have always read they are warm. Don't know if it's because mine is second hand but I don't find it warm at all, so disappointed

Flamingmentalcats · 07/12/2022 06:21

Sorry, that was no help.no am currently eyeing up coats on Blacks as they have a good sale on. Worth a look. The one I am looking at is a Peter Storm Luna parker

That's disappointing. I've had two over the years and have always been toasty. Perhaps they vary by the design.

Didrikson Erika is my favourite:

Anjelika · 07/12/2022 21:05

Each Didrikson has a heat rating on their website. I checked mine was the highest rating before buying. I feel the cold big time and mine is beautifully warm. I'm not sure how they would get less warm with wear. Mine says to iron it after washing to rewaterproof it but no mention of anything to restore its warmth.

At size 16/18 I reckon you can't go wrong with Ilse Jacobsen. Very nicely shaped around curves, which makes me feel like less of a marble (at 5ft3 and size 18)

I'm just gatecrashing this because I'm on the lookout too for The Perfect Parka :
I had a look at the Drickenson ones linked here but they have straight hems , I need the fishtail hem.

My no compromise list is :

Khaki
Non shiney ( I want the heavy cotton canvas look)
Removeable fur if its on the hood
No blingey hardware
No other colours on it except the khaki
Zipped pockets
Not too much lining , certainly no fur or Borg
Not padded like a puffer
Fish Tail Hem.

I am prepared to wait , I will still want one next year .

I saw a woman wearing one yesterday and I nearly risked life and limb crossing the road to ask her , but no fish tail hem ('m sure she was relieved !)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/01/2023 17:22

Didrikson not whatever i wrote - sigh

Sunnycats · 29/01/2023 08:34

Thank you @MusselMam for the link to the passenger one! Just ordered in Rubber - exactly what I have been looking for and a bargain at £64! Not bought from Passenger before but they seem a good brand so fingers crossed.
