Alternatives to Lee Stafford anti humidity spray.

Seems like they changed the smell. I’ve had my old can for years. It’s great every time I’ve used it.

Don’t really want to spend £7 on a new spray when reviews are so clear that the new smell is awful.

Any alternative recommendations please?

I’m looking for a good alternative to his shine spray too - smells horrible now.

CornishTiger · 27/11/2022 18:27

Fuck. Do all the original products have the new smell. What is it actually like?

I haven’t tried any others - used to like the straightening shampoo/conditioner but don’t want to try it now!

It smells like an old fashioned hairspray, like how I imagine hairspray from the 1950s would smell! Difficult to describe but not a smell I want lingering all day (and it does linger)

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 27/11/2022 18:32

Actually I might try this one next - I’ve switched to this brand of Mark Hill shampoo/conditioner and it’s a nice scent - again difficult to describe, but a mix of essential oils

The Heat protect spray is awful. I got through bottles of the old smell

chikp · 27/11/2022 19:59

I'm pretty sure they sold the old smell as a fragrance once.

CornishTiger · 27/11/2022 21:09

Yes lots of reviews say it smelt like angel perfume?

why change what isn’t broke!

I got some of the Lee Stafford spray from a Home Bargains and it smells like an old man's armpit. Shame really as it works but it smells awful.

Orangeslemon · 27/11/2022 21:30

Sorry, no recommendations but I’ve been using the Lee Stafford heat protector spray for years and years and it smells awful now too 😫 So cloying. I used to absolutely love the scent of the old one. All the Boots reviews say the same thing so hope they take the feedback on board!

CornishTiger · 27/11/2022 21:55

It’s so frustrating. It was the boots reviews that alerted me. There’s an old post on their Facebook saying the same too.

I’ve messaged them!

It got me through my 20s.

There must be some environmental or cost impact of the scent I think - they can’t possibly have thought the new products would be better.

Okay so I’ve tried…

GHD Shiny Ever After - this is pricy compared to Lee Stafford and it’s too heavy on my hair. Have to spray a really tiny amount from far away otherwise the hair gets too greasy. Scent is okay but more chemical-ish than perfume - not as terrible as the new Lee Stafford though.

Tigi Bed Head Head Rush Superfine Shine Spray - again this is too heavy on my hair, not quite as heavy as GHD but still need a tiny amount and the spray isn’t fine. Scent is better than GHD - more fruity than floral.

the winner for me so far is Mark Hill Style Addict Gloss Finish Shine Spray - this is a very fine spray, much more similar to Lee Stafford. Sits nicely on the hair, still don’t need loads but because it’s a fine spray it’s harder to go overboard by accident. The scent is more a floral perfume than chemicals. Not fruity. It’s on 3 for 2 in Boots at the moment - £5.99 for 250ml so I think that makes it better value than Lee Stafford?

I haven’t tried the other Mark Hill one I posted the other day as they didn’t have it in stock today.

Greengr · 03/12/2022 06:47

This is brilliant but now discontinued

If your old can has lasted you years, then I think it's worth spending £7. How has it lasted years?

CosmopolitanPlease · 03/12/2022 10:47

I used to love that Gliss shine spray that @Greengr linked to. There's some for sale on Amazon but it's in German so I'm not sure it's the same product? And one of the reviewers says they used it on their radiators so even more confusing! 😂

I might get some of the Mark Hill spray, my hair always looks rough and dull after straightening or curling.
