Annoyed - Lucy and Yak top shrunk first wash

I know this is really first world problems.

I bought a lovely Lucy and Yak roll neck top. It said organic cotton so I expected quality and it was.

I washed it at 30 degrees as the label specified and the arms have shrunk!

I have long arms to the fit was close length wise as it was. Now they don’t fit- they’re now halfway up my wrist.

I expected better since I paid so much. Is it something to do with the fact it’s organic cotton? Anyone else had this issue?

Thank you

Ps in case it’s not obvious, I didn’t put it on the drier 😅

I'd ask for a refund

LolaSmiles · 26/11/2022 17:10

I would ask for a refund. It shouldn't shrink like that.

Lupinspotato · 26/11/2022 18:04

I would also ask for a refund

Their customer service is fab. I would ask for a refund or a replacement.

Customer service for a return?
I have their roll necks and never had a problem with shrinkage washing on a cool 30 and air drying, maybe this is a dud one.

toastfiend · 26/11/2022 18:11

I don't think Lucy & Yak pre-wash their fabric for environmental reasons (I might be wrong, but I remember an Instagram video about it a while ago). Means a lot of their stuff does shrink on a "normal" wash - I do anything of mine from there on a cold wash and hang them up to dry, never tumble dry, but it is a faff, and I agree that for the price you'd generally expect better. I'd contact their customer service team to see if they will help.

Thank you all for your replies - sorry for the delay. I asked for a replacement and they happily obliged and asked for the original to send back for testing. I will handwash the next one using cold water I think...

@Bipbopbee @toastfiend when you've washed yours (I assume in the machine) did you do on a delicate wash?

They told me they do pre-wash them in their response but I read as organic cotton lacks chemical treatment it makes it more prone to shrinking than the treated cotton we are used to.

The customer service is good.

I use the cotton wash only function on my machine set to 30 degrees, so that might be a bit gentler. Glad they have sorted it for you though!
