Where to get wool (or wool-ish) winter coat in size 24?

I'd like a nice long wool winter coat (or some kind of wool substitute if it's still nice) but I can't seem to find it!

I was hoping to get something nice in the sales, but it's turning into a mission!
I've tried all of these and not found what I'm looking for... where have I missed that stocks size 24 and does nice long wool (or wool look) winter coats?

Monsoon
John Lewis
Next
Phase Eight
M&S
Oasis
Curvissa
Seasalt
Toast (bloody hell that's pricey!)
Debenhams (still exists online I see)
Dorothy Perkins
TK Maxx
River Island
Wallis
Evans

Hallo! What about Mango and Yours Clothing? I've ordered from Yours loads but only just found out that Mango do plus size!

chwaer · 23/11/2022 22:10

Ooh, not tried either, I'll have a look, thanks...

I like this (Phase Eight) but it's not really what I was looking for, I'm not sure if it'd be warm enough, it's not a coat-coast - is it?

I need a 22 and find there is very little in a good quality wool, I often have more luck on EBay with discontinued brands like Jacques Vert, Eastex and Windsmoor

chwaer · 23/11/2022 22:26

Wow! I just discovered Wolf and Badger, I feel like I've taken acid! 😂And I think I love it!

In another world I have enough money to buy all that stuff on a whim, just to swan about in once or twice.

Back in the real, world though, I need a solid coat to see me through the winter and wear to client meetings <sigh>

I can see that Studio 8 (phase eight's plus size range) have a few.... what are your basic requirements (knee or full length, colour etc).

chwaer · 23/11/2022 22:27

Yes, that kind of thing! Thanks, I'll give it a punt...

Ah, it won't come in time. I was going to go all in with an offer, but I need something that'll arrive by Monday, ideally. I've done a low bid, let's see how that goes, but the hunt is still on!

In my mind's eye it's knee length, but full length would be grand also. And I'd go shorter if I really liked it.

I like black, grey, mossy green, herringbone, navy but will consider other colours if I like the cut!

I like asymmetrical cuts like the Phase Eight one above, but that's not essential. I also like funnel necks - again, not essential.

I'm round and don't do belts or pinched in waists, at all. I can get a coat that has a belt if it's easily discarded and the coat still works, but those ones that are just tied with a belt won't work for me. I also don't want a teddy coat as I have one already and I want something a bit smarter for work.

I want something that feels lovely and warm, and good quality when I put it on. A proper wool winter coat with a nice lining. Decent pockets would be great also. Crappy little pockets you can't keep a phone in give me feminist rage!

Ooh, yes I had a JL swing coat too! I wore it when I was pregnant, I loved it!

It got ruined, I can't remember how now, it was years ago (possibly moths), but I remember was gutted to chuck it, it was gorgeous.

Ah, I LOVE the shape of this one from Hellbunny. It's gorgeous - only the laces on the side don't work for me, they make it feel like not a work coat, if you know what I mean?

Slightly quirky would be fine, but that just doesn't feel right, can't explain why!

I've seen that Monsoon one a few places and I like it, but I don't think it'd suit my shape (round!) - I'd need to try it on.

The pea coat is nice, but I want something warmer. My teddy coat doesn't do up all the way at the front either, the buttons are low down and it's bloody cold when the wind blows if I don't have a scarf on!

Don't judge until you’ve given them a chance but George at Asda (new range with chap I can’t remember) and Matalan. Matalan winter wool-ish coats are particularly good and I got my MIL a 22 there.

starsinthegutter · 23/11/2022 23:09

I went into monsoon recently and thought their quality has really gone down hill, looked quite cheap. Second hand M&S is usually good.

Oh, definitely not sniffy about supermarket bargains!

Since Monsoon closed, not a single one of the high street stores in my town stocks my size Sad so the only impulse clothes shopping I do in real life these days is at the supermarket.

I agree, I think it has. And so much of their stuff is viscose these days! I really don't like the way it feels.

DM boots, also. They don't make them like they used to, for sure.

However, on the supermarket coats, Matalan doesn't have anything suitable in my size and the Asda ones are all single breasted. #chilly!

Went back and had another look at next, filtered on 24 and found this bottle green coat which would be great, I thought I was finally done there! But it's not in my size after all, FFS.

So close to giving up! But I really did want a coat. I have a load of work meetings next week to go to and my Teddy coat isn't right and the only other one I have that still fits is a scrappy raincoat.

Probably I need to give up on getting what I really want and just get something cheap and cheerful that does the job, don't I? Fuck this was easier when I was a size 10 <sigh>
