To buy or not to buy….

This coat!

I’m toying with buying it. I think it’d be fairly easy to wear with jeans/jumpers/chunky boots. What do others think? How would you style it?

I like clothes with a bit of interest and want something fairly practical but without being the same as all the other black puffers around at the mo. But don’t want to get something that’ll be difficult to wear. For some reason something putting me off is I’m not sure what bag would work with it?

Any opinions please! Or other coat suggestions very welcome too!

It’s more stylish than your standard puffa coat. I like it. Re bags, I’d wear a cross body bag under it to save the bag from getting wet when it rains.

girlmom21 · 23/11/2022 16:11

Sorry OP but I think that's disgusting

Classica · 23/11/2022 16:12

Overall I like it but I have a thing against coats with a tied belt. I always feel they look a bit messy.

Wiennetta · 23/11/2022 16:44

Haha quite mixed then! The other one I like is This one. Any thoughts?

I love Ganni, and that first coat is awesome!

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 23/11/2022 16:51

Oh interesting choices:

First reaction: they are both similar to coats my 85yr old mum likes to wear

Second reaction: it's very "now" to look like you are wearing your grandparents clothes

So if your style is quite cool and up to date, it would look great.

As to bags. Bags are out. You just bring phone and keys (in pocket)

My initial reaction was "no", then I came round to "yes"

Go for it

Aixellency · 23/11/2022 16:56

Prefer the second one in the sold out teak colour. I don’t think any synthetic fabric puffy coat can look good in black - shape and material combined are just inevitably drab, at any price.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 23/11/2022 16:59

Sleeves look too short....or is that how it's supposed to be?

TreacsPotNoodle · 23/11/2022 17:00

LOVE!!

I feel like it's definitely a certain style that some people may not like but i think it's gorgeous.

I'm asking dp for a ganni beanie for Christmas.

Mercurial123 · 23/11/2022 17:09

The second is better than the first. Though I don't like the collar on either it will look dated by next year if that bothers you.

Notcontent · 23/11/2022 17:10

I love them but I think you need to be tall, which I assume you are.

savvy7 · 23/11/2022 17:14

I don't like the flaps on either coat

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 23/11/2022 17:16

I agree with a PP, I like the shape of both coats a lot, but not in black. The type material doesn't look great in black.

Ventimiglia · 23/11/2022 17:17

The first is just too fussy- the plackets the pockets the belt the funny ruff skirt thing. The second is better. But tbh not keen on either, despite loving a big long puffer.

Rina66 · 23/11/2022 17:50

I like the second one, but I think you always need to try padded coats on, as sometimes the way the sleeves are inserted can make you look as if you've been pumped up! Also the second one has an inverted pleat at the back, so it could be quite bulky?
Don't Sweaty Betty do a reversible padded coat, one side was padded and the other side was plain? That could solve your dilemma OP - clever idea.

1990s · 23/11/2022 17:53

Love them both. <helpful>

Rauha · 23/11/2022 17:59

Yes to the first one! Ganni is fantastic.

EllaPaella · 23/11/2022 18:09

Love the first one

Shitfather · 23/11/2022 18:11

I’m a big Ganni fan and adore my coat, but I’m not a fan of the first. They did an absolutely gorgeous asymmetric one last year. Here is a pic:

Bobbybobbins · 23/11/2022 18:12

I don't like the first one- prefer the second.

Squiz81 · 23/11/2022 18:29

The first one the sleeves look too short and too wide around the cuff for a warm/waterproof coat. You’d have drafty wrists

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/11/2022 18:34

I think in black neither look remotely what they cost and are pretty indistinguishable from any cheap high street offering, especially once you chucked on a scarf etc, any point of difference would be pretty much non existent unless you were closely inspecting.

I like the shape of the first but just can't move past the black. A coat that long in black would drain any remaining life off me if I wore it (and there isn't much in the first place). I am quite pale though.

sunshinesallday · 23/11/2022 18:40

I love the second one!

Wiennetta · 23/11/2022 23:25

It’s definitely a bit marmite!

I like Ganni though, and some of the more quirky styles. I’m not after something super practical or sensible. More something that’s decent for winter - but I live in a city centre and wouldn’t be using it for anything beyond walking to the shops/restaurants/bars.

Someone said it would suit a tall person - I’m 5 ft 10 and size 8 so I think a lot of the Ganni styles work well with my height!

Interesting to hear the opinions about the black colour.

Im going to keep looking as there are a few Ganni styles which are quite similar and I’ve seen some second hand so doing some hunting around now!
