Anyone know about gel nail lamps I please?

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 23/11/2022 15:03

and would like to share their knowledge please ?

DD 22 has intimated she may not be averse to receiving one of these and I’d rather get her a good one as we believe in quality over quantity in terms of Christmas and birthday presents. Actually that’s not quite true , I believe in quality and quantity and frequently end up mildly disappointed 😁.

Having said all that (and still reeling from the Times column on beauty gadgets this morning) I’m not going to spend a daft amount.

I doubt anyone will see this as I’m
posting at 3pm but you never know!

I have a Mylee one and am pleased with it. Does the job!

goes straight onto Times App

I have the gel touch one which I got from Argos and is great as you can use normal nail varnish and then just use the gel touch top coat.

PinkArt · 23/11/2022 21:29

I've got a Mylee one at the mo after my Sensationail one gave up the ghost. I'm preferring Mylee's polishes now too.
There should be some good offers this week, whichever brand you go for. Polishes are a good smaller present suggestion too if grandparents etc are after ideas

Chloefairydust · 24/11/2022 02:10

I have a mylee one and it is very good and not too expensive

ColeensBoot · 24/11/2022 07:08

I have a Lidl one, but also recommend mylee brand for lamp and gel colours.
I also bought some UV blocking nail gloves as I was worried about the extra UV on my hands. But I think I'm.on my own on that one! Noone else seems bothered about it.

thirstyformore · 24/11/2022 07:22

I've got a mylee one too. I think I got it on Amazon as part of a starter pack, which included base and top coats. Don't forget the product you wipe over at the end to reduce stickiness. She'll also need a way to remove the gel.

I like the mylee polishes too.

Its only fair that I return the favour so here are the eye watering products .

Argos have 20% off those kits with wipes, gels etc so it looks like DD will be getting a Mylee one “as recommended by Mumsnet” 😁

OMG I didn't know that existed? I always think about this when I do my nails! I mean.. is it like being in a sunbed but just your hands??

ColeensBoot · 24/11/2022 14:18

Well yes I think so, it's UV light whether it's led or regular bulbs. I have looked online but I can't see the power output Vs normal sunlight. Plus it's very close to your skin. So I don't know if I needed the gloves, but I put them on plus factor 50 spf on fingers. Then clean the nail itself with remover and acetone to clean them before painting.
Each hand gets 2 mins 4 times.

So I'm going safe and wearing the gloves. No idea if I really need to, but I am nevertheless.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 24/11/2022 14:23

That’s interesting. I’ve found some of the more expensive lamps to be LED rather than UV.

OP posts:
ColeensBoot · 24/11/2022 14:30

Nope they are led UV, still UV. As that's how the nail polish is cured.
But they are a bit cagey about it. It's still UV

CornishGem1975 · 24/11/2022 14:45

I asked on here recently and this was recommended to me - currently on offer. I'm still dithering

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 24/11/2022 19:12

You see , this is why I came on here @ColeensBoot . I had no idea about that.

There has been a small spanner in the works as on further questioning, DD specified she’d rather keep her original polishes and just get the top coat and a lamp. So now I’m back to the beginning again.

I have a CND one which is what my manicurist uses. They are more expensive but its been going over 6 years and i would buy the same again if it ever broke down. Its been amazing.

The salon I worked in used CND lamps, they were good but are expensive just to buy for home use. To be honest I don’t see much difference from the CND lamp to the mylee (much cheaper) that I use at home on myself. Both cure the gel polish in the same amount of time, and the manicure lasts just as long 🤷🏼‍♀️…

Also another tip, shellac is the best gel polish but it’s very expensive. So what I do is buy the shellac top coat and bottom coat with other (cheaper) brands of gel colour polish (so it lasts just as long as shellac would) I like born pretty, they do really nice colours.

whatsinaname2 · 24/11/2022 20:02

Another Mylee one. It's great, four years down the line and no regrets.
