Christmas Day what goes with this?

We are having Christmas out this year, just myself DH and his elderly mum. Then straight to my brothers for a late afternoon/evening get together. I've just ordered this dress and will wear heels but not sure what to wear on top. I really need waist definition to avoid the sack of spuds look and I'm thinking of a fitted short blazer with nothing under it (pinned appropriately), possibly velvet and maybe a jewel colour, but I can't see anything that fits the brief.

I'm size 10-12, smallish boobs, good waist and blonde with short hair if that helps.

Any ideas welcome and yes I know it's a tutu but I love it and I think it could look lovely if I think the right top.

Budget?

But wouldn’t a velvet jacket (that you can’t take off!) be a bit stiff for a day spent with relatives? Even if eating out. I’d be thinking of a luxurious cashmere or Shetland sweater - either belted or tucked in, with some favourite jewellery.

Not a fan of belts so prefer a tailored fit and that rules out jumpers etc.

I'd just put a jumper with it, something in a reasonably fine knit , possibly boat neck or crew neck, or a wrap cardigan (& other stories do a nice one). I'm a fairly classic (boring) dresser these days and don't like novelty leaning festive wear. I'd jazz it up with the shoes and jewellery if it was venue appropriate.

I know you said you like a tailored fit but I think when these are paired with a fluffy woolly sweater or cardi like you've shown it works really well. Lovely skirt!
