Saw at least five women today looking fabulous with a quiff!

I went to the city centre today for the first time in ages and I saw lots of older women (I’m in my 50s myself) looking fabulous.

A few had short bleached hair with a quiff. It reminded me of myself in the ‘80s! Another woman had cropped bleached hair and she looked stunning in a black oversized coat and shiny boots. Lots of women around were funky and stylish.

It’s given me a bit of motivation to still make an effort as I have definitely lost my way a bit in the last few years. I’ve always loved clothes and fashion but I’ve been stuck in the same old boring style for ease for too long. I would love to change my image a bit but not sure if I’m brave enough for a bleached quiff.

Btw most of these women were in John Lewis and the make up department was packed!

Ah I'd use half a can of Insette on my quiff back then. It only got burnt once so it wasn't that dangerous...

Emma Willis often has a quiff and looks great. I used to like Dannii Minogue with one too. I don't think I'm brave enough to go short though and would be useless at styling it ☹️

Have you got a similar picture? I am
clearing losing my imagination because I can’t see this at all.

Have a look at Deborah Darling on Pinterest or Instagram. She’s 58 with the same style and looks amazing.

I thought I looked like Bridget Nielsen back in the day.

BrandyandGinger · 15/11/2022 19:35

I've been contemplating that Deborah Darling haircut but I don't like my ears so I'm scared about going so short. My hair is going grey and I don't want to dye it but it's coarser that it was and I keep thinking that really short hair would be the answer to my problems.

It must be great to have good bone structure instead of chubby cheeks.

Yourloss · 15/11/2022 19:54

Dawn French has a similar haircut now and she is almost grey and also looks great.

I have a quiff - had a chin length angled Bob until about a year ago. I'd toyed with the idea for months and eventually just thought "feck it"!

My advice is to go to a men's barber.

For some reason I couldn't seem to find a hairdresser who could get it right, they kept trying to give me a pixie cut.

Went to a barber one day and asked if he would do it, showed him a picture of a man with the cut I wanted and he just said yeah no bother!

I'm his only female customer.

£13 Vs hairdresser charging me £35 too - win win!

I think a dramatic hair change ends up requiring adjustment in your make up, wardrobe and even accessories as things just don't suit the same. The style may also need updating as romantic boho stuff may not look 'right' with a highly styled sharp modern crop.

FrangipaniBlue · 15/11/2022 20:12

This is true actually.

I haven't had to dramatically change my wardrobe, but I have found there are some things that don't suit me anymore.

Conversely, there are things that DO suit me that I never would have worn before!

BestIsWest · 15/11/2022 22:18

I have very similar hair. I love it but have had to rethink a lot of what I wear. I’ve got a very long neck and have to be careful with necklines. Scoop or v necks look awful. Collars look great.
It’s so easy though - a bit of wax in the morning and it’s done.

Cleanthatup · 15/11/2022 22:23

Ohh it’s lovely!! Very stylish. I agree with PPs though you may have to change your style a little.

I had my hair like this in my 20s when I was a lot thinner, I don’t think I could pull it off now with a fat neck.

Yourloss · 15/11/2022 22:30

Sadly I don’t think I could pull it off with a slack jaw!

I like her bold lipstick too.

I would agree with PPs that surely fab bone structure is essential for this. Then again, it probably is with all short styles.
