Can I share my budget £4.99 solution to stop eyeshadow creping or wandering?

This: BarryM Lid Lock.

I bought this in my local small town last year (from SuperDrug, we also are blessed with a tiny Boots and a SpaceNK).

It's so good. Nothing budges or creases!

I’m 51 and love a strong pigment and this really works for me 🤩

So excited I forgot the link but it’s in SuperDrugs or Boots everywhere I should imagine!

Thanks for sharing, OP!

pharmachameleon · 14/11/2022 20:57

Ooh good to know. The reviews on Amazon say it's grainy-did you find that?

Snooks1971 · 14/11/2022 21:01

@LearnerCook you’re welcome! I like to spread my cash on occasional “luxury” (to me) like the odd Hourglass palette and I’ve just bought the Ole Hendrickson primer but I also love budget. Like 95% budget! And for the job it has to do = make eye makeup stay put = well it does that perfectly 👁👁

Ooh that is good to know. I don't often wear a very heavy pigmented lid but every eyeshadow creases so that's great intel.

Snooks1971 · 14/11/2022 21:09

@pharmachameleon good question
it is a very stiff texture (you have to squeeze the tube like a bastard to get a mm out) so it’s NOT a silky liquid milky texture at all. It’s stiff and tacky at first.God it sounds horrendous 😃 But if you pat it on your eyelids all over lightly (don’t leave lumps) then after ten mins I put eye stuff on x

swirlypinky · 14/11/2022 21:10

Thanks! I always spend a
Fortune on a mac primer but will try this

LearnerCook · 14/11/2022 21:51

£3.74 on Amazon just now. Looking forward to trying it.

Does it make shimmers pop? I'm looking for an alternative to the pat mcgrath pen thing.

Shimmers as in sheers @brighterthanthemoon? Ooh I don’t know sorry, all I can report is that it’s tacky when it (eventually) leaves the tube but after patted on sparingly any eye makeup afterwards seems to stuck like glue x

Snooks1971 · 14/11/2022 22:18

PS it’s a tiny tube but you hardly use any. Probably why I’ve had it for a year.
Must reiterate - use sparingly and make sure it’s smooth - no lumps!!

This is my holiday grail, as totally changed
my eyeshadow game!

in response re graininess- I do find it a bit like that sometimes (I think it’s because there is sometimes a build up of product in the hole where it comes out). But I run between my fingers to warm it up and that does the trick.

highly recommend, it’s such a game changer compared to how my shadow used to melt away and/or crease really quickly

PiscesScot · 15/11/2022 00:10

*holy
*has
*rub

😱

Thanks @PiscesScot you explained the texture and application much better than I did 😄yes it is a game changer isn’t it?!

I discovered this a few weeks back and love it. Also much cheaper than the smash box one I was using.

I've also found an excellent primer from wilkinsons. It's their body collection illuminating primer. Amazing and very cheap.

Might be worth a try! Thank you!

This sounds great, thanks for the info!

Does anything exist that holds lip colour in place?

Boshi · 15/11/2022 13:01

Oo how does it compare to urban decay primer potion if you’ve used that? In consistency and hold?

Budget option sounds good, I love Barry M eye glitters too, easy to use as mac glitters

I think you can still get Lipcote. I used to use it in the 90s and it tasted awful and was patchy at best. Not sure if they've improved it but I find the best way to make lipstick last is still apply, blot, apply, blot.

EspeciallyD · 15/11/2022 13:05

I've been using it for a couple of years, I just smooth it on with my finger and then straight on with eyeshadow, which doesn't budge all day. You get a tiny grain where it dies in the hole in the tube but as a pp says, a quick rub between the fingers melts it and you are good to go.

EspeciallyD · 15/11/2022 13:05

You can still get Lipcote but I am allergic to it (same ingredient as I am allergic to in plasters) so haven't used it for years.

I’m not sure, sorry I haven’t tried the Urban Decay one. I was so fed up of my eyeshadow wandering and falling into my crease or just disappearing into the ether that one day in our local town I asked a lovely lady in Superdrug about any eye primers and she only knew of this one. Always 3 for 2 anyway!

Like pp have said you need to warm it if it’s stiff for a couple of seconds but it’s like superglue for eyeshadow. And less is more, just pat it on, very small amount.

The primer sounds good - I mean, Wilkos won’t be making it, an established cosmetic house will be making it so it’s definitely worth a try, thank you! X

KirstenBlest · 16/11/2022 08:42

Speaking of Wilko, had a rummage in their reduced section and got a primer and a lipstick for 50p each, instead of £8 and £4.

Shitfather · 16/11/2022 10:06

Oohh great thread!! Will order. I used the Urban Decay one years ago and forgot about it until reading this thread.
