Cheap but expensive looking Christmas party dress

Newusernameaug · 11/11/2022 11:06

I have an award dinner and Christmas party night to go on which are with work, I’d love something wow but that looks expensive but is cheap, ideally less than £50.

Im 5’6, size 10-12 and curvy, preferably short sleeve or no sleeves as I get very hot easily. I need things fitted or shaped others I look like a brick!

Any suggestions would be welcome please, I’ve looked and can’t find anything that’s cheap and gorgeous!

I was thinking a deep red or green velvet dress but no luck there, not too keen on black but happy if it’s an amazing dress.

If you're not ethically opppsed to SHEIN, I've found their range of party dresses (around £30) to be of a much higher quality than the everyday bits.

I've bought a couple and had lots of comments about how nice they looked.

Ooh I love this!! 😍

Roman have quite a few velvet dresses. This might be worth a look.

mrssmiling · 11/11/2022 13:05

Not velvet, but green, and sequinned. www.roman.co.uk/metallic-lace-sequin-midi-dress-14068234

My DD has this for a Christmas party and it's really lovely Quiz green velvet

Tartifletti · 11/11/2022 13:06

Vinted is amazing for this purpose. I got a lace dress from Whistles for £10! I wouldn't have paid the £175 it would have cost new but quite happy for that price!

If you know brands that fit you, I'd look on Vinted for something second-hand. A dress like that is likely to have only been worn a few times.

Yes, buy a really expensive brand from vinted for a fraction of the price!

Roman is your friend for occasions like these. Here are there Christmas outfits

I have the black cowl neck jumpsuit and it’s the most flattering think I’ve ever worn and very easy to get on and off. I’ve worn it to two awards doos recently with a chunky pearl necklace and gold jacket and shoes. Thinking of getting the navy one too.

BTW if you get hot avoid velvet like the plague.

John Lewis has recently started designer dresses/outfits to hire, there's quite a few for £50 or under

A woman at our table wore this to a big awards night last Friday (it ended in fireworks outside so she added a fur coat) and it was beautiful on. The drunker she got the more she told everyone what a bargain it was so perhaps don’t do that 🤣.

I just ordered this.. looks lovely. Plan to wear with chunky gold sandals and white faux fur jacket.

The only thing that puts me off jumpsuits is faffing about taking it off to pee. I love the new look green velvet dress though. Looks lovely

I've been browsing the past couple of days too, so will be following with interest!

bippityboppity87 · 11/11/2022 15:31

I'm quite liking this look, but not sure if it would be "smart" enough for proper do's. With chunky Chelsea boots

I'd get on Vinted. I recently bought a whistles party dress I loved when it was in the shops but it was above my budget. I bloody love it!

NameChangeLifeChange · 11/11/2022 21:44

This Zara dress is honestly gorgeous on! Velvet, sleeveless I’ve got it for my Christmas do!

Sleeveless for December won't work...

NameChangeLifeChange · 11/11/2022 22:48

@Gwenhwyfar of course it will! You haven’t been on a night out in the north- bare skin everywhere even in snow ⛄️

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 11/11/2022 22:54

I've been around stupid people, but I'm not (that) stupid myself.
I suppose it might work if your party is in a busy nightlclub, but not for the average pub or restaurant.

PeachMelba78 · 12/11/2022 06:03

Thanks to this thread I have ordered the green velvet jumpsuit from PLT. I barely get anything that’s not from Vinted and I already had my Xmas party outfit sorted by you are bad influences!

Niftythrifter · 12/11/2022 07:08

The charity shops have all their part wear out at the moment so as well as Vinted it would be worth going and having a look in your local ones or even ones further afield. The biggest investment would be your time but the savings could be considerable.

Last one especially comes in different colours, looks classy and you could dress up with something like this

Thank you whoever posted this. I went on the website and they are stunning, especially for the price. I did buy one and will wait to see what it is like then if they are as good as they seem will buy some more for presents. Thanks.
