Help with footwear and top!

I’ve attached picture of a 30 year old pair of trousers I can finally wear again! I’d like to wear them for a boozy work Xmas lunch next month, but I’ve no idea what to wear on top and what footwear to wear

To complicate things I absolutely cannot do anything higher than a kitten heel and I have ridiculously wide feet!

I’m size 14/16 (never thought I’d see that day😂) blonde hair and fairly naturally tanned skin. For clarity the trousers are navy not black

(and yes I was trying them on with a very unflattering pair of socks)

TIA style gurus!😁

Ooo I like them! I think if you can embrace the trainer then go for a flat form that will be very visible when you wear the trousers. Don't try snd. "pretty" them up

JudgeRindersMinder · 09/11/2022 21:29

I can very much embrace trainers😂 You think they’d be ok with a fancy top?

(I spent very many years very overweight and not interested in fashion so I have no clue as to what’s ok!)

This blouse is lovely. The sizing is neat so if you're a 14/16, I would recommend the 16:

Also comes in pink, turquoise and cobalt.

For footwear, both Jigsaw and Air and Grace do lovely navy velvet trainers.

KirstenBlest · 10/11/2022 15:11

The green blouse is a winner. Another vote for a flatform

Absolutely love the top-it’s a definite possible…I’m also looking at flat forms -this outfit could totally work!

I think the idea of a flat trainer with those trousers is great. Especially velvet trainers.

I do love the green jigsaw blouse. But I would also look at a more fitted top. And see what works best.

The trousers look great. Congratulations on your weight loss and have a lovely time.

CountryCousin · 11/11/2022 09:43

That’s a magnificent pair of trousers! (Almost palazzo style?) What fabric? Envious that you’ve successfully held on to them for this long - I tend to lose or abandon all my nicest clothes, then spend decades in mourning.

To bring them right up to date I’d suggest something like these from Marni. Or anything else on their site that elevates. (Was in a Marnie shop yesterday - the bright green mules are to die for.) Daresay there are plenty of cheaper copies of that general idea.

And probably a top in the same colour as your trousers - something faux casual like a heavy silk t shirt. Or felted wool. Very simple, not dressy. With film star hair and make up!

CountryCousin · 11/11/2022 09:55

In fact, party or no party your trousers deserve this type of pure, luxurious simplicity. And a diamond brooch.

Sequin top and Next online have lots of other great options.

It’s the only piece of clothing I’ve ever held on to (apart from my wedding dress) and I genuinely thought I’d never wear them again! I kept them because my mum had bought me them to go on a date with my now husband as she thought the sun shone out of his backside (which it does a bit) and she thought he deserved me in a nice outfit 😂

Loving all your suggestions and I think I’ll probably go for something in heavy satin or silk rather than sequins. I love a bit of sparkle, but think understatement is the way forward with these!

I meant to say that they were from Next, but in the early 90s when they really did amazing quality, not like now

Late 80s, post graduation, my first proper job interview jacket came from Next. Looked like Chanel and was so nice that a decade later I lent it to my sister for her graduation ceremony. Those were the days … 👵🏼

Really? I thought they were Issey Miyake, the Pleats Please collection. Impressive. Looks great with the green, BTW.

Great outfit - hope the occasion lived up to it!
