Lipstick which stays but isn’t matte

I have plenty of lipsticks which stay on very well but they are all matte and at my age (mid 40’s) I’m realising that dewy and glowing makeup (both skin and lips) looks much better on me. But every lipstick I buy which has a sheen to it, wears off very quickly and if I add a bit of gloss to a matte one, it seems to lose it’s staying power also. Does anyone have the answer?

Lisa Eldridge makes True Velvet lipsticks which are sort of both- not a true matte because they have a velvety sheen to them but they stay on amazingly.

I used a Nars lip gloss last night I bought in a sale and it stayed on all night.

Thank you. It’s not so much the dry issue though , it’s more that the matte look does nothing for my aging skin. It looks a bit lifeless and I need something a bit glossier looking

I get on really well with Clinique dramatically different lipsticks. Satin not matte with a bit of a shine. Great staying power. Some lovely shades.

Stila all day lipsticks have good staying power. They’re known for the matte ones but have recently brought out sheer and shimmer versions

Would a Satin finish be better? Sort of a halfway house between matte and gloss.

I use Maybelline super stay and then put sheer sparkly gloss over the top. I don’t use lip liner as the Superstay is easy to apply to the lip edge with the applicator and doesn’t bleed.

I adore the Lisa Eldridge True Velvet lipsticks but I wouldn't say they have a sheen.

Fenty Retro Rose has a gorgeous sheen but stays on a fair bit, I haven't tried the others aside from Vamps who brunch, way too glittery for me.

More to look at, thanks! I’m going to need a shopping trip soon, I wonder if testers are still a thing,last time I looked in my local (small) boots, there were still no testers after covid

I second the vote for maybelline superstay lipstick the one with the gloss stick on the end. It goes on Matt stays on so well with the gloss over the top and is a great price too with loads of colours to choose.

Use lipcote lipstick fixer, it really works

Maybelline superstay vinyl. Not quite as long lasting as matt ones but very close for something with shine.
