Award ceremony dress

Help, my team at work is shortlisted for an award which comes with a pretty big ceremony dinner and I have zero clue what to wear. My sector is very relaxed in terms of dress codes and I've always been a jeans, jumper, flats and no makeup kind of a girl. I now have under 4weeks to find an outfit for a posh London do which has me smart enough but not so out that I am out of comfort zone (any more than I will be already!). Just hit 40 and body confidence at an all time low, 5"7 and wear a 18, generally hourglass shape though with a mum tum. Thinking something in a dark colour, certainly no sequins or bright shades and nothing shorter than knee. Ideally under £100 hit me with suggestions please!

I feel like this fits the brief!

This velvet jacket will soon be available in the right size. Add the trousers and you won’t be much over budget.

But in all honesty to make best use of your money you’d probably be better off to hire something.

Congratulations on the shortlisting!

That cut out bask ruins the dress imo!!!

Mammyloveswine · 03/11/2022 23:25

@sopeas back not bask

That is gorgeous, and haven't come accross goddiva as a brand so will have a look. Not quite sure what I'd do bra wise but think I'll order several things and see how I feel in them before returning. Many thanks x

Love the jacket but always think two pieces like this look better on slimmer women. I did wonder about hiring but the places I've looked so far are all a bit prom dressy or as expensive/more expensive than budget!!!

I had the same and hired a dress from girl meets dress.

Brilliant service, order a few to try on and then enjoy without stress or major cost.

Also great as you don't have a dress hanging up you'll never wear.

You could always try a fancy jumpsuit

You’re welcome! This particular type of style is incredibly flattering on all shapes and sizes. I’d definitely recommend trying some wrap dresses and ones with a bit of ruching like this one. Good luck with the hunt 🛍 x
