Help! I’m 38 and look so old! What can I do?

Itstheimplication · 31/10/2022 19:53

I have expression lines on my forehead so it’s really creased and I’m starting to get the angry lines above the bridge of my nose.

my hair is fine anyway but so thin since have Ds That it’s in terrible condition and just sort of hangs there but I can’t have it cut too short as I have a very round face so would look like a mushroom.

my skin on my face is starting to product these weird little skin coloured bumps (my mum has them too) and my eyelids are so wrinkly and hooded.

I look so much older than everyone else my ages and it’s really depressing me. I need to lose a bit of weight but am scared that I’ll end up looking even older facially 😭

I find going to the gym helps. You look healthier, happier, glowy and just generally feel much better about yourself

I think I look well butters when I stop going to the gym lol

I hated my angry lines in between my eyebrows, I had Botox and it was the best thing I’ve done for my self confidence ever. No regrets. Other wrinkles I’ve got I’m ok with, I just didn’t like those ones. Also drink 2 litres of water and use a good facial scrub a couple of times a week

Lamentations · 31/10/2022 20:03

Botox is the only thing that will remove the lines. If you can afford it find someone reputable and try not to get carried away and you'll be thrilled with the results.

SommerTen · 31/10/2022 20:31

The bumps are probably milia which a beautician could remove.

Regards the fine hair; get your haemoglobin & ferritin levels checked by your gp surgery. If your haemoglobin is below 120 then unless you actually need a prescribed iron supplement (your gp will tell you if you do), you could try 'gentle iron 20mg capsules' from Holland & Barrett which are good.
I also take Perfectil Hair capsules which have improved my fine hair and actually my skin & nails seem better too!

Make sure you have the right skincare regimen. Cleanse, tone, serum, & moisturiser with high spf.
I cleanse with Simple Cleansing Lotion.
I found Clinique Clarifying Lotion as a toner is a game changer for my skin.
And I get Clinique Smart Clinical Repair Serum which contains anti wrinkle ingredients including retinol, which I feel works well.
I wear Boots no7 Protect & Perfect Night Cream over the serum at night.
In the day it's essential to use a cream with a high spf like spf50 over a retinol serum so it can't damage your skin. I'm experimenting to find the right cream for me.

Lines can also be due to dehydration so make sure you drink 2l fluids a day.

I'm overweight too and nervous about what effect weight loss may have on my face but apparently lifting weights helps keep your face looking good. Also you can try face exercises...

If you get an Inverted bob it will allow your hair to look thicker but still stay long at the front.
Try a physical hobby like rock climbing or kayaking, then you get fitter and gain confidence.

Maze76 · 31/10/2022 20:38

Vitamin C serum an Retinol - look up Medik8 online. Also like others have said SPF 50 and lots of water

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 31/10/2022 20:38

If you get your Botox done by a reputable doctor (note, doctor, not 16 year old in a beauty salon!) the risks are very low and results very good. X

Babooshka1991 · 31/10/2022 21:19

Filler, Botox, quality natural looking makeup, blunt haircut and some highlights to make hair look as thick as possible

ZooTropia · 31/10/2022 21:32

Did you mean these kind of lumps??
These are fatty deposits in your eye area are typically caused by weight gain and loss over the years. When you gain weight, fat cells increase and form deposits. When you lose weight, parts of your body may hold onto that fat under the chin and around the eyes. It's basically cholesterol

Help! I’m 38 and look so old! What can I do?
ladygindiva · 31/10/2022 21:42

Bob with fringe
Gym / exercise
Skincare routine
Drinking water LOADS
Sleeping as much as possible
Wearing makeup
All these things help me

MsCactus · 31/10/2022 21:56

Check out Hot and Flashy on YouTube - her anti aging tips are great, but boil down to: skincare (sunscreen, retinol, exfoliators, vitamin C), exercise and good diet

declutteringmymind · 31/10/2022 21:59

Sleep more
Hydrate
Botox
Eat well
Get a Skin and me subscription or similar

I find a smile takes off years and vice versa for a frown.

And tons of Botox 😉

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/11/2022 16:49

I agree about fresh air and excercise, smiling and getting enough sleep/water.

creideamhdóchasgrá · 02/11/2022 17:01

Maybe invest and get your colours done and a styling session? They advise on colours that suit including your “pop” colours, style, hair colour and accessories. One off payments to boost your look and help you feel more confident.

These are good if you are in London (no relation) and an internet search would find others.

Lots of water
Eat oily fish like salmon
Maybe take a Berocca every day

These are probably rubbish, but worth a try!

Monmouthy · 11/12/2022 11:02

Time and gravity happen to us all, don’t bloody hate yourself, not saying it’s not okay to be bothered but I hate the self hatred people get like you’ve failed or find something bad. Awful. Anyway my tips are sleep, water, exercise, the good old trinity of good skin, Smile Flowers can’t comment on Botox as have enough injections just to keep me alive.

Monmouthy · 11/12/2022 11:04

Sorry op just noticed this was October; keep getting caught out by that new ‘similar threads’ feature!!

merlotlover · 11/12/2022 11:09

I have a big fringe 👍🏻 I would look terrible without it, my friend got Botox and it looks amazing! X

Tigofigo · 11/12/2022 12:06

Botox

Skin + Me prescription with tret

Good facial fake tan - I like u tan

Good hair colour and cut (consider tapes if you can afford them, I can't right now)

More water and less sugar

Ariela · 11/12/2022 13:09

Wait till you're over 60.

Hunkahunkaa · 11/12/2022 13:18

Drink plenty of water, you will find that the lines 'plump out' and are smoother the less dehydrates you are and get a good moisturiser. Clayton's moisture surge is incredible and the bare minerals might cream is also very good.

This! My dentist (private) does mine when I'm not BF and he is fantastic.
