The White Company or Neom? Hand/ bath stuff (for gifts)

I've bought both before for friends and family.

Is TWC smoke and mirrors? I read some of it's made by Deciem who make The Ordinary.

And Neom?

Would you say they were inter changeable in terms of quality?

I personally wouldn't get either of them or like them, quite generic. I actually can't stand things like The White Company's candles or incense burners.

L'Occitane is quite nice for gifts. Diptyque for candles.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 31/10/2022 16:52

They are both interchangeable.

Fenty Lip Gloss in Fussy (Fu$$y) would be great for a younger woman. Have given this to a relative and she loved it:

Interchangeable in terms of quality I mean...

dontgobaconmyheart · 31/10/2022 17:57

I'd say the quality is fairly similar. I don't overly rate TWC for fragranced homeware, to me it all smells strongly synthetic (candles particularly) and gives me a headache. The packaging doesn't look particularly luxurious.

NEOM I think looks a bit nicer aesthetically but I think the strong essential oil scents are definitely an acquired taste. I probably wouldn't gift either and wouldn't be overly excited to receive either (gratitude for being thought of aside).

I think unless you know the person likes that type of thing, or likes fragranced toiletries then it's a bit hit or miss. I can't really use fragranced hand creams or washes as my hands get sore in the winter, so they sting and don't really do the job.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 31/10/2022 18:00

Neom is way nicer in my book - especially the scented candles.

Coconut80 · 31/10/2022 19:23

Neom far better quality and scent in my opinion. The hand creams, pillow spray and body creams are just luxurious to use x

ofHardey · 31/10/2022 21:27

I'm going to buck the trend here and say TWC candles, oils and Reed diffusers are gorgeous! Especially the new scent Oakmoss. I would be thrilled to receive anything from that range as a gift. Neom on the other hand is a very specific scent , 100% essential oils and not a 'nice' fragrance in my opinion.

hattie43 · 31/10/2022 21:31

TWC for me .
NEOM is very divisive and I only like one scent real luxury some of the others are vile .

PAFMO · 31/10/2022 21:35

Neom is better quality IMO. I'd also go for L'Occitane over either. I get Neom in mega sales.
Arran Aromatics is one of my favourites for that kind of thing.

Jayneisagirlsname · 31/10/2022 21:36

I would love either! Have been given both at different times and both felt luxurious and a real treat.

AnnieSnap · 31/10/2022 22:15

I’ve had a few samples from TWC and liked them. I have a Neom oil diffuser and I love that. I have a range of their essential oils for it, used according to my mood. I find them to be very high quality. For hand/body/pillow stuff, my favourites are from This Works. I was introduced to the brand in last year’s M&S Advent Calendar and have bought several things from the range since then.

TokyoSushi · 31/10/2022 22:19

I'd say TWC. I'm not really ever allergic to anything, but I'm allergic to Neom!

DillDanding · 31/10/2022 23:14

I can't bear Neom. For some reason, friends constantly buy me Neom stuff and I always re-gift it as the smell is just too much for me.

I really like White Company candles, but haven't tried their bath stuff. I think their candles are a pretty good cheap alternative to Diptyque or Jo Malone.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/11/2022 05:09

Not what you're asking but unless you know they'll use it, I'd avoid hand cream. I don't know a single person who uses it - I know people who use O'Keefes and medical grade barrier creams for work, but fancier one's just gather dust.

Neom would get my vote out of those two, but my first love would always be Ortigia, especially their Neroli.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/11/2022 05:15

Chapter Organics are the best candles and reed diffusers imo.

I like Neom for hand cream etc.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/11/2022 05:17

Chapter Organics, also, do lovely hand and body creams. I find them a bit strong scent wise, though.

I love Ortega!

I get what PP are saying re The White Company, it does smell synthetic to me! Neom I’ve never got the hype about it! I’m

FeralWitch · 01/11/2022 08:25

Neom, I love it. More natural-smelling than The White Company. Some of their fragrances give me a banging headache, although their Winter candles are the smell of Christmas to me.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 01/11/2022 08:26

Both nice but I try to support independents, feels a bit more thoughtful. Do you want candles or oils?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/11/2022 09:19

St Eval gets a lot of love on MN. Their candles are lovely and I see they now do hand wash/ lotion/ shampoo etc.

PAFMO · 01/11/2022 09:23

St Eval don't get love from me despite smelling lovely. I bought some on the back of a MN thread and ended up with soot all over the furniture and black snot which terrified us pouring out of DD's nose. GP said you either have a coal fire that she sits too close too or cheap badly made candles (that she's been too close to) I wrote to St Eval and they fobbed me off saying if I wanted a replacement I'd have to pay p&p. I didn't want a replacement I wanted an apology.

That's terrible! There's a shop near me that sells them, to be honest I've only ever smelt them in there. The scents are gorgeous but I'll be rethinking buying them based on your experience!

redredwineub40 · 01/11/2022 10:47

I like TWC and Neom, prefer TWC candles except Neom real luxury, but bath products from Neom and perfect night range are lovely.

redredwineub40 · 01/11/2022 10:49

This time of year, there are lots of hand creams knocking about in various things so I wouldn't buy it.

AnnieSnap · 01/11/2022 11:42

It’s significant that NEOM candles are made with Soy Wax. I’m not sure about those from TWC. I always check before buying. Those made with petroleum wax are terrible for the environment and when burned, are bad for our lungs.
