Dubai Bling - confused about the dress code for Dubai

Hullo, not entirely sure this is the right topic for my question, it seemed the closest.

I've been watching Dubai Bling on Netflix and, much like any of these super rich docu-soaps it's filled with beautiful young women doing fabulous things whilst wearing fabulous clothes.

However, I was under the impression that there was a dress code in Dubai, no thighs, cleavage or shoulders on show. I googled the dress code in Dubai and that's what was suggested.

These beautiful women seem to spend all their time sashaying around in clothes that I wouldn't have thought would be within the parameters. The dresses tend to be long, but with thigh high splits, or strapless. Even on a shopping trip to the public mall they are wearing quite revealing clothes, short shorts or thigh high boots with a short skirt.

So, I guess what I'm asking is if there are any clued up Mumsnetters who can tell me what is what? No other reason than curiosity!

Generally it's respectful not to wear revealing clothing where there will be locals such as a Mall and obviously any religious buildings or Government buildings. But on the beach, bars, beach clubs, brunches etc, anything goes.

Thank you, that's what I thought the dress code was - I'm guessing that most of this programme will be staged, so not many people around. I did see in one episode a lass threw a traditional Saudi party and all the women were in outfits that gave more coverage.

I used to live there and the outfits certainly surprised me! They are not what you see everyday 😂

I'm sure you know this but dubal isn't in Saudi.

I found locals (non religious) wear what they like and tourists need to cover up 🙄

Basically you won't be in legal trouble (usually) for being immodestly dressed but it's disrespectful and any consequences to that are viewed as "you brought it on yourself" by the authorities. Most people dress respectfully but some people don't. Those people are judged. Also it's a bit surreal in the shops to see women in full burqas come in with their husband buying skimpy undies.

Dubai Bling is 100% not an accurate representation of what life in Dubai is actually like.

However, apart from in Goverment buildings there is no dress code in Dubai. You can wear pretty much what you like within reason - I mean seeing someone in a shopping centre in the UK wandering around in a bikini would still garner some looks and it's the same here!

I've spent a lot of time around Dubai Mall and agree have never seen anyone dressed like the Dubai Bling cast.
