Anyone getting an M&S beauty advent calendar this year?

I am thinking about it, but put off by needing to spend £30, there are a few things I've been looking at online including some shoes, but what if they don't fit etc, if I return the items do I have to return the calendar?
Also is it worth it or is it just lots of handcream and samples?

I had it the last two years and really liked it but have a different one this year.
It’s usually a good mix of hair, body and face stuff.
I usually buy pjs or underwear to spend the £30.

MerylSqueak · 27/10/2022 06:40

You don't have to return it if you don't like the things you bought to be able to buy it. I had it last year and liked it. I think it's good this year but there's too many things I personally don't want.

pharmachameleon · 27/10/2022 18:14

Yes I ordered it this morning. I get it every year and it's quite good. I would love a Liberty or Space NK one but just can't afford it and I think the M&S one is good fun and really good value.

shiningstar2 · 27/10/2022 18:17

I had it last year. It was ok but I would rather a smaller box of full size products. For me it had too many sample size products even though they were good quality

RomainingCalm · 27/10/2022 18:28

I've had them in previous years and sadly I have come to the conclusion that I love the thought of it more than the reality.

I spend the 6 months after Christmas moving tiny tubes of products from one place to the next before admitting that actually I'll never use 20% of the contents.

So this year I am going to resist the advent calendar and instead spend the money on a couple of big tubs of Rituals body cream which I know I will use. 😊

Ilikeviognier · 27/10/2022 18:32

I had it last year and found it really good. Ive just purchased this years calendar too. It’s definitely one of the best value ones out there I would say.

GinIronic · 27/10/2022 18:42

I've stopped getting this calendar - the products are too similar to the last two calendars and they are just not inspiring enough to buy.

Exactly this although I'm buying a Diptyque candle instead.

I don't have problems buying the required amounts to get the calendar for £40 but I don t need nail varnish, mascaras, eye pencil or Philip Kingsley products - still have some from the last 2 years calendars .

I was in store today and they had lots of the calendars - I had a look and it's my least favourite design since they started and I wasn't persuaded by the contents.

BeaLola · 27/10/2022 19:18

Apologies I didn't want my post to come across so moany !!!! I guess I'm just calendered out

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/10/2022 19:23

I buy it every year - I don't use all of it but I gift lots to other people. It makes me happy to have something to open in the run up to Christmas!

BHRK · 27/10/2022 19:23

I love it and have ordered it. I find it easy to spend the cash on pants and pyjamas!

Sewwhatmrmagpie · 27/10/2022 19:24

Not going to get it this year - there's Nora lot of products I would use this time round. Shame as I've loved the last couple of years!

I8toys · 27/10/2022 19:34

I always get it and buy new socks for the males in the family to get the £30. This is my only indulgence as I can't justify buying an expensive one just for myself. I also bought Degustabox for the family.

drumandthebass · 27/10/2022 19:36

I've just ordered one for my friend's birthday. I have received one for my last two birthdays and absolutely loved it - although I found last year there were too many hand creams. Nevertheless I enjoyed opening it every day and hope my friend will feel the same

mynameiscalypso · 27/10/2022 19:58

I am exactly the same as @RomainingCalm. I love the idea but every year I just end up with lots of tiny pots that I use once and then, eventually, end up chucking because they've either dried up or I can't remember what they're for. I think I'm just going to spend the money on a very indulgent chocolate one this year.

Catslovepies · 27/10/2022 20:11

Same as many others, I won't get it because it's too similar to previous years and I still have loads of bits and pieces leftover I haven't used yet. Sadly I don't think I'll get any advent calendar this year as there are none I can think of that I actually want.

Imissmoominmama · 27/10/2022 20:38

It’s still coming up as £300, even though I have something for £35 and something for £12 in my basket. I seem to remember this happening last year, but it’s making me nervous! Does anyone have any advice?

PilatesPeach · 27/10/2022 20:46

No - I decided to get a Laithwaites' white wine advent calendar - it is £70 which so the same as if I had to pay the £30 and £40 at Marks! Half a bottle for 24 days (well 24th is half a bottle of champagne!)

RewildingAmbridge · 27/10/2022 20:52

Ooh now I'm tempted by the lathwaites one!

Add the T code for the calendar to your basket first, then add the the other items.

Anyone getting an M&S beauty advent calendar this year?
Hopeislost · 27/10/2022 22:16

Yes! Ordered mine already! I find it much better value than other beauty calendars and between me, DH and DD don't find it hard to spend £30!

YorkieTheRabbit · 27/10/2022 22:46

I had The M&S calendar for a few years then LF and last year got the Next one. I thought about going back to M&S this year until I saw the contents, it doesn’t seem to have changed much since the last time I got it even the same perfume.
Id really likes the John Lewis one, at £179 it’s certainly not cheap but there are far more full size products and ones that I already use, Olaplex, Bobby Brown etc or that I would like to try.
I fully appreciate that at £40 it isn’t going to be stuffed full of fancy products but two nails inc nail polish, another eyeliner and yet more elasticizer . Too much will end up being given away or thrown out.

toastfiend · 27/10/2022 23:49

I get it every year, I love it and think it's good value and there have been lots of products that I've actually gone on to buy full size versions of over the years, too. Sure, there's stuff I don't use, which I tend to give to other people, but those I use and like tend to cover the cost of the calendar and I like the chance to try lots of different products. I'm looking forward to this year's, seems to have fewer hair serums, which I'm pleased about as they all make my hair a bit greasy.

I had L'Occitane's advent calendar one year and that was truly disappointing. 9 handcreams in total - what does one do with that much hand cream? I've still got tubes and tubes of it lying around and it was 2 years ago. I like the variety in the M&S one.

Adventadventures · 28/10/2022 00:14

Not getting it this year as splurged on JL and having had it for the last 3 years am a bit jaded with it but for those who are buying it for the first or second time I think it’s great value and lovely to get a treat every day.
It helps if you have teenage/adult daughters I only have one I am always envious of my friend with 4 at this time of the year as nothing gets wasted in her house you can always find a home for stuff you don’t need.
Otherwise I always use about 90% of the stuff usually on holidays where the small sizes are super handy

AnnieSnap · 28/10/2022 01:39

Last year was the first that beauty Advent Calendars came onto my radar (I know!). I had the M&S one and really enjoyed it. There are a couple of duds in it this year for me. I can’t wear mascara. I wasn’t very taken with the Aveda hair stuff and I’m still using it now and again to avoid waste. I see it’s back this year. Nevertheless. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the rest. I use several REN products and have considered buying the eye cream they include, but not got around to it. It’s nice to try a new sample of perfume that is more that a 2ml thing. Lots of the other products appeal too. I have been wanting some new jeans and waited to buy them until the Calendar was released. I bought them both this morning. I won’t be buying any other calendar.
