Clothes for larger tween girl

Please help! I am going out of my mind and my daughter’s self esteem is at an all time low. Where do you buy clothes for bigger tweens? She is 10 years old, about 148cm and 43kg. She has a tummy - mixture of puppy fat and being big like her dad/gran. Nothing fits her! She won’t wear leggings cos they cling to her legs and I can’t find jeans which do up. Age 13 wide fit in New Look wouldn’t do up today. I have tried suggesting dresses with boots and tights but she won’t try them on.

Have you tried adult petite ranges?

Marigoldbear · 26/10/2022 21:28

Have just looked at asos petite and they have some jeans that might work - thanks!

Great! Hope they work for her :)

My daughter is similar build, aged 11 and we have got her size 10 Next petite jeans. They fit nicely and really suit her.

She has quite a womanly figure for her age and kids ranges just don't fit well.

Forget childrens clothes, my daughter was the same, she's 12 now and wears a ladies 10-12.

TheOpenRoad · 26/10/2022 23:11

Agree, just buy her clothes that fit rather than look at the size label. If size 13 doesn't fit, get something bigger, the label really doesn't matter.

And so many kids clothes are designed for very straight up and down shapes, doesn't fit different shape bodies. I also find girl clothes cut narrower and more slim fitting so bigger sizes are often needed

Next do pull on loose fit jeans up to age 16, they were fab for my son when he had similar tummy problems and are really soft
Just order multiple sizes, next day delivery try them all on at home so she doesnt get stressed out?

Asda also do really good jeggings that come in a looser leg fitting in the ladies department - maybe a 10 short would fit?

I can't help, but just wanted to say I feel for you.

My dd (now much older) had v big feet for her age (and still has), but the only thing that fitted her were adult shoes when all she wanted were shoes she could climb trees in.

Those years were hard

ellieboolou · 26/10/2022 23:24

My 10yo has similar issues so we get petit adults size 6 or 8 depending on where we shop.
I find girls clothes 13-14 are for beanpole kids who have no hips / tummies.

Laurakiaora · 26/10/2022 23:24

My 10 year old is above my shoulder and in age 15 clothes. I've given up on pretty much everywhere except for Next. She lives out of leggings as jeans are an absolute no-go but their sizes in everything seem to be very generous (their age 15 t shirts are massive which we like) plus they carry a good range of designs and styles for younger girls in bigger sizes (patterned leggings, graphic tees etc).

Joggers are popular and would be less clingy than leggings.

Thanks for all the kind messages and advice. Much appreciated.
