Is Boots Yankee Candle star gift good value?

Zeeza · 21/10/2022 16:55

I want to get some candles for my friend for Christmas. But I dont ever use candles. I've noticed that she mainly has Yankee candles.

Does anyone happen to know if the Boots star gift set is good value and good scents? I hear some are hit and miss. Should i hold out for black Friday? Are there any comparable bath and bodyworks sets for under £40 as I hear their scents are more reliable?

Thanks in advance

They're a good candle, the wax melts have scented my Christmases for years and the set at reduced price is good value

BananaCocktails · 21/10/2022 19:04

That’s a Really good price for that gift Love this, however the best candles are DW candles which you can find in TK Maxx they smell amazing and Are far superior , About £7.99 each

lentilly · 21/10/2022 19:31

Yeah I mean it was £54 originally it says

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 21/10/2022 19:34

Personally I wouldn’t thank you for Yankee Candles - they give me heinous headaches and are paraffin based, meaning they are bad for the environment.

Zeeza · 21/10/2022 19:34

OK, thanks all. Good tip @BananaCocktails . I will check them out. But I am tempted to get the Yankees as that's what my friend already chooses.

I bought this set the other day - it’s really good value as the medium jars alone are £20 full price. The Christmas Eve candle is one of my favourites.

AddieLoggins2 · 21/10/2022 19:46

I agree with other comments on the price, the issue I have with the set is that a lot of them are quite Christmassy scents. Which is nice if buying them for yourself to use before Christmas but I'm not that keen on getting Christmassy scented candles for Christmas as I end up having to keep them until next Christmas or burn them in January/February when I don't really appreciate those smells as much. That might just be me though.

I have a sea salted pumpkin one and it smells amazing even when it's not lit. Nothing like a pumpkin though sort of chocolatey

winterchills · 21/10/2022 19:52

That's really good value! Definitely a lovely gift x

Zeeza · 21/10/2022 20:48

Oh absolutely. But this lady burns more candles than anyone else I've ever seen. And she seems to burn them "out of season" so I think I will take the risk. Fingers crossed.

ooo im glad i seen this i love a yankee candle and didnt know it was a boots star gift

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/10/2022 13:29

I think its reasonable but not really much of a bargain. Ultimately the votives are very small and seem to me like 'filler' content - you'd need holders for them or candle plates to burn them and they don't last long. I am not a fan of Yankee candle at all I must admit but times in the past I've been given the small votives like those in this set I have ended up giving them away or sending to charity if they'll take them.

There is no way that set would be worth £54 at full price. I assume she mostly burns the jars so really I would add up whether the cost of 1 medium and 2 small jars comes to around that price. I imagine you could choose 1 medium jar and 2 small jars in any scent you liked and it would be about the same price.

Yankee candle have an option on there website where you can personalise the design of the jar for a birthday etc which makes a nice gift if you know someone who likes the brand.

PAFMO · 22/10/2022 13:32

It's quite a good price. Amazon do an even better deal a bit nearer to Christmas. Let me have a look at my account. I get it every year and DD and I split it.

PAFMO · 22/10/2022 13:42

Oh, I stand happily corrected. The one I get for £29 has 6 votives, one small and one medium jar, so yours is better value OP.
I may need to get one!
Yankee wax isn't the highest quality- this is true, but in a newspaper article someone posted last year, neither were some very ££££££s ones! And I'll never touch St Eval again after DD ended up with black snot that worried us and turned out to be soot deposits from one of theirs in the living room. (they were also snotty about it when I wrote to them and denied it could be their candle)

MrsDThomas · 22/10/2022 17:14

Its a great set fir a great price.

but those sicky Christmas smells. I love my candles but smells like that? No.

threegoodthings · 22/10/2022 17:17

For that money you could get 2 or 3 big and much more luxurious candles in TK Maxx.

But that's not the point is it? OP's friend likes Yankee.

lentilly · 22/10/2022 17:55

I saw it in store today - it looks really good value.

Probably because she's never treated herself to anything better!

She doesnt need to spend more on fewer candles if she likes and enjoys Yankee candles
