Thickest, coarsest, frizzy hair; protein confusion everywhere!!!

Promoted by another thread really but timely.

I have very thick, very coarse, very frizzy hair. Sort of do curly girl and get good curls that are 3a ish. But still frizzy. My hair is bloody BIG.

I stopped highlights a couple of years ago, attempted to let it go grey and hated it, and now box dye (I know) it brown (ish). I stopped heat about 2 years ago apart from the odd cool diffuse, and it's been generally in better condition than for the last 30 years!!!

I throw conditioner at all
Constantly. Leave in, deep, etc etc. Never really done protein. Some Olaplex (meh!).

So....in the last couple of weeks I've done a couple of protein masks and... Christ...my hair feels Amazing! More malleable, still curly, but soft and actually shiny!

So, am I doomed? I keep reading how protein should be used sparingly as it can make the hair brittle. I've also been reading that for coarse frizzy hair it's basically just a no-no!!!

Can anyone please help me. I feel like I've discovered something that would have been helpful 30 years ago... but is it the devils work?

And, how would I know... wait for it to break? Is it possible I could put more masks on for now and that it would then reache a steady state? And then back off to once a month etc?!! Anyone... help... please?!!! Confused
