Tell me about your favourite trousers!

Hello style gurus

Between pregnancy and living overseas in a hot climate for a few years, I appear to have no trousers left and am keen to rectify this!

I’m after smart but stylish (not necessarily fashionable - stylish) trousers, for work, casual wear and smart wear.

Please tell me where you get your favourite trousers and what style they are? The more specific the better.

FYI I am short (5ft 2) and have recently become a size 16, previously was 12-14. Am trying not to focus too much on size… Hourglass shape, big (nice) boobs.

thanks

I have a lot of pairs of Brax Carola in cotton, cord and velvet.
I used to wear them to the office with a cashmere polo neck and jacket in winter or a striped top and linen blazer in summer. I mostly WFH now, but still wear them every day.
They are not high-end tailor wool "smart" but fine for everything except really important meetings.

I’m loving Acai casual stroll pants (note I only like this style & don’t like their skinny styles personally).
They are super stretchy and comfy, wash & dry quickly, and are perfect for my active lifestyle. I wouldn’t wear them for going out or if I wanted to make an effort, but they are perfect day to day around the house / WFH / dog walking / doing a bit of gardening type trousers

I'm an hourglass too and have one pair of trousers that genuinely fit, they're jaegar but none of their other ones fit so it's a fluke.

I'm starting to think I'll have to go up a few sizes then take the waist in, but the legs still seem to hang badly when they're too large. Maybe wide leg is the way to go.

Following on the hope of some suggestions 🤞

OhSunnyMorning · 19/10/2022 23:57

My exploding trousers that I got from Hartlepool.

Fingernails4Cash · 20/10/2022 00:12

Banana Republic... sadly no more. Watching and waiting for the answer

LizBuin · 20/10/2022 06:54

Boden Hampshire, they're meant to be ankle grazers I think, they're called 7/8 trousers, but I'm 5ft 4 so they're more like 8/8 on me.
I've really struggled recently to buy nice black trousers that aren't shiny polyester or that don't hang off my arse.
These are slim but not tight, and they don't seem to add any extra bulk around the waist or hips.

ChunkyMonkeyIsBack · 20/10/2022 09:22

My M&S wide leg jersey cords. I recommended them on here the day and ended up buying two more 😳

OldTinHat · 20/10/2022 09:25

Wonderfit jeans from George. Best thing ever!

CountryCousin · 20/10/2022 09:31

These in the khaki. Gorgeous, weighty fabric, beautiful finishing inside and out. Love them more than oxygen!

Also the sizing is … vast. I’d have exchanged for a smaller size if they’d been available. (Mine were reduced in the Summer sale, now back to full price.)

Cantonet · 20/10/2022 09:36

I have the M&S wide leg jersey cords too from last year, when they were cropped wide legs. But this year they're ankle grazers & as a 5 ft 3 person they look ridiculous at that length. Even in the short they look like trousers that have shrunk in the wash. So I returned mine in a fit of pique. I most probably will buy them again though when I have a discount ( which will pay for the cost of shortening them).
I'm 5t 3 & apple shaped op and I've been wearing a lot of the m&s Wide leg striped trousers & I like the plain jersey wide legs too. With stacked trainers adding an extra 2 & a bit inches to my height. I also really like M&S Suedette leggings with long Boots.
Have fun buying new stuff! I lived overseas in a hot country for years & I loved buying Cold Weather Clothes when I returned.

But they only go up to a14

I think these wide leg side stripe trousers from M&S are a brilliant all round choice at the moment. Good value, multiple lengths, can dress them up for work with a shirt and loafers, wear them with t-shirt and trainers on the weekend. On trend, and the jersey is heavy and hangs well.

My favourite trousers right now are my indigo barrel leg jeans from Kin at John Lewis. Heavy thick dark denim with a nice texture. I'll post the link in a mo.

AquaticSewingMachine · 20/10/2022 09:49

Kin balloon jeans

Sooverthemill · 20/10/2022 09:54

Boden have really an excellent petite range so that might help. A really good pair of jeans is nice to have. I like Hush and Levi and Levi have different leg lengths. ( I'm 5'1).

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 20/10/2022 09:58

Fellow hourglass here, size 16 until recently.

I have 4 pairs of Uniqlo Smart Ankle Trousers. They are tapered, 7/8 on me, probably full length on you. Always available, in different weights for different seasons and lots of colours. XL will fit a 16.

They have a hidden elastic waist
waist so smart but super comfy. Don't need ironing. A little bit of stretch but quite structured. Proper pockets!

Oh and they're 35 pounds but often on sale.

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/10/2022 10:34

For casual I love Ultimate Joggers (Lucy Dodwell stocks these). You can sometimes get a bargain on Vinted of the brand (Suzy D).

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/10/2022 10:34

Also the Hourglass range on ASOS is worth a look

CountryCousin · 20/10/2022 11:13

But they only go up to a14

The OP has stated that she’s a size 16 - and I have stated that the trousers in question are so generous in size that it’s best to buy at least one if not two sizes smaller.

RandomCatGenerator · 24/10/2022 22:42

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve ordered the Uniqlo ones, they look good and good price point too.

I find taking in and adjusting and whatnot all just too complicated - and expensive! Where does one find an inexpensive tailor?!

RandomCatGenerator · 24/10/2022 22:43

@TheFormidableMrsC do you find Ultimate Joggers flattering? The look like they’d be deeply unflattering…

RandomCatGenerator · 28/10/2022 09:37

@TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet top notch Uniqlo recommendation - they are perfect!

@TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet can you link the trousers, I did take a look but there's a lot of different trousers
