We’ve just had ours announced in central London for the first week in December I am beyond excited I didn’t get out very much and I will be surrounded by really lovely intelligent witty people early thirties to late 50s.

What to wear ?

I’ve been thinking about this too! Ours is in a posh hotel this year and I want to push the boat out a bit seen as we haven’t had one since 2019!

What’s your style/budget??

Jessiesthedog · 18/10/2022 19:02

I’d love to say money is no object but sadly it most definitely is I don’t want to spend a lot I’m thinking maybe 150 ? Hair blowdry and train fare on top is going to push it to 200.

Sounds lovely - what is your general style?

Jessiesthedog · 18/10/2022 19:14

I prefer a nice dress rather than trousers or leggings or skinny jeans and a nice top and I was thinking of staying over night so i can glam up and make a night of it. I dont get out much as you can tell

You could find a dress you like online, then check on Vinted and stretch your budget :)
I’ve just done this with a Burberry trench coat for my Xmas london trip!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2022 19:41

I had a Facebook ad pop up the other day for a dress from Roman and straightaway I was like there's my Xmas party outfit Grin

SuperPug · 18/10/2022 20:04

It’s not that popular on Mumsnet but anything I’ve bought from Karen Millen for going out has been pretty good, lasted well and is a decent price (further reductions through app). All Saints currently have a sale, some good stuff there too.

Jessiesthedog · 18/10/2022 20:08

I’ve always like to Karen Mellin All Saints is a good shout to because then maybe my daughter might wear it when I’ve worn it once that’s always such a tragedy that these things only ever seem to get one outing.

You could look at renting a dress? Or get something special but still a bit classic so you can wear it more than once?

SilkFred have some nice budget options. For something a bit more expensive John Lewis has some nice dresses online, still under the £100 mark.

Jessiesthedog · 19/10/2022 14:31

Ahhh of course

Had I still been working I would have this for our department's Xmas party (I'm still hoping for an invite)! As it is, I tried it on, loved it and bought it anyway. Is is so flattering on. I've ordered it in black as well. We've got a couple of things planned for Xmas and also a couple of cruises booked next year where we've got formal nights so I will get use out of them.

I cant wait for christmas, never too early to start planning, i think it'll be here before you know it ! i've seen a lot of party wear with sparkles and sequins in h&m the other day so maybe try have a little look in there, if not i would think asos might be a good place to start

Pootles34 · 20/10/2022 12:41

That's a gorgeous jumpsuit @NeedWineNow ! What shoes would you wear it with?

Thanks @Pootles34 I loved it as soon as I saw it. I've tried it on with gold block heeled sandals and it looks great. It's channelling a bit of a 1940's vibe I think which isn't apparent from the photo, so platforms/block heels work well. I've also got some black velvet point toe flats which will work with the black one I've got on order.

Jessiesthedog · 20/10/2022 18:47

The jumpsuit is gorgeous and sold out 🤦‍♀️
but I need something a lot more fitted than the second dress.

I think I might have to stretch the budget because even to hire something nice he’s gonna be more than 150

Whichever outfit you go for I'd recommend some interesting/witty statement jewellery like something from Tatty Devine. The amount of times it's been a conversation starter at a party, and the lovely people I've met, is astonishing. And no I don't work for them!

Ooh thanks for that suggestion. Just found the perfect stocking filler for my daughter 😀

lindyloo57 · 03/11/2022 19:20

I ordered the jumpsuit, unfortunately at 5ft2 it needed around 4 inches cut off the length, so I return it.

Artsyfancy56 · 03/11/2022 19:55

Hi there,
Im not sure what length you are comfortable with.
I did shop on this website before and customer service is great plus the clothing are priced reasonably. I love these 2 dresses from their site.
I hope these helps and I bet you would look great .

R2D2 or Drama teacher, definitely wouldn’t be my choice for a party this year‘s fashions are weird though.
