V casual dresser, I need a going out outfit!

I’m a very casual dresser. New mum on maternity leave. Wardrobe made up of a uniform of straight leg jeans, t shirts, jumpers and cardigans (usually oversized), and jumpsuits. I wear trainers, Birkenstocks, and have one pair of flat black leather boots. I have some workwear bits - a couple of corporate looking blazers, and some gorgeous dark grey wool trousers from jigsaw.

I have no clothes suitable for going out, for example to the pub in the evening, for a fancy meal out, or a party. I have no idea what my style for these events is, my clothes right now are so casual and usually oversized. For reference I am 5’8 and a size 10. Pale skin and brown hair, blue eyes. I’d like to buy a going out outfit but it’s so overwhelming because I basically need everything from shoes to a coat to a bag and some jewellery to make an outfit like this work. Please help! What basics can I buy to build an outfit like this? Where do you shop? I’d love to have just one complete outfit that I can wear, as a starting point.

Just to add, I don’t really like dresses. I’d rather get a trousers / top etc. combo that I can potentially mix and match with the jeans and plain white t shirts already in my wardrobe to create more outfit combinations.

I’m wondering if my jigsaw wool trousers can be used in an outfit? These ones: www.jigsaw-online.com/products/nevis-brushed-flannel-trouser-grey

I had a look at Jigsaw (as it’s not somewhere I generally shop) and almost the first thing I saw was a velvet jacket. Why not get one to wear with your jeans and t shirts? Very effortless way of dressing ‘up’.

Then just add a fun pair of furry mules or some gold ankle boots.

Never considered a velvet blazer, thanks for the inspiration!

Maybe think of adding something to what you've already got to jazz it up, rather than a whole new outfit. A pair of sparkly earrings or a bright scarf.

I would add a 'nice top' and a jacket to your wardrobe and wear that with the jeans you like best. Assume you have some boots that would work. This would be for the pub, pizza, not massively posh restaurant. If you need 'dressed up' try a more luxe midi dress add the jacket and boots

What sort of brands do you like for tops? Sequins or not?

These boots are lovely.
