I really need some good advice.

Embarrassingly, I have dreadful hair and only myself to blame.

I thought I'd do an all over hair bleach to save money.

I didn't leave it in long enough and my hair came out a patchy orange and very light where my highlights were. I panicked and put a pink over the top.

I look like a dead rainbow.

Can a hairdresser do anything to make it look better?

I have shortish hair and It honestly looks so awful I am wondering if I should get a crop and start again?

I am a fucking idiot and old enough to know better.

Olaplex
Colour I don't know. Maybe an ashy/cool brown.

HeadacheEarthquake · 14/10/2022 23:09

Head and shoulders shampoo twice til it washes out a d a good repair conditioner like Palmers or dove. Then go a few shades darker.

Minimalme · 14/10/2022 23:24

Thank you. I think my teenager has some head and shoulders.

I will pick up some Olaplex tomorrow.

I look really silly and dh isn't helping. He goes between making jokes and being very serious about how I am too impulsive.

Thank you, I genuinely feel shit about it Sad

I think a darker brown will look weird because I have an undercut up to my temples and am quite grey there.

Not weirder than the current orange and pink shit show I am currently sporting tho.

Ah maybe an ashy light brown then?

You can do this, just a week of head and shoulders then deep conditions and you will be outta there..

I've done the orange blonde mistake and I'm rooting for you xxx keep us updated

Minimalme · 14/10/2022 23:49

@HeadacheEarthquake you are making me feel less miserable, thank you.

Should I keep away from any colour until I have washed it out? Then run a brownish toner through it?

OP you must feel so shit but you did make me laugh “dead rainbow” 😂😂😂

if you makes you feel better I dyed my hair black by accident and had to go to the hairdresser to have it stripped and redone. I ended up with a gorgeous colour that I had never considered before x

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 15/10/2022 00:29

I am not in UK but I think it is worldwide... the big Amazon sale on right now includes Olaplex.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/10/2022 00:33

Go and get it corrected properly, I have walked into a salon with pink hair and come out completely normal looking again after a couple of hours. They know what they're doing, don't do it yourself ,you've just proved you can't do it so don't even try. Good luck 💐

I feel for you, I really do, I have had loads of hair DIY disasters & they can be fixed, at home, to a degree anyway! I once had black hair & tried home bleaching & it ending up looking like I had a big tarantula on my head, black banding, orange banding, yellow banding! I was 17 though! But I have had a a fair few more hair disasters since and no I didn’t learn my lesson about fucking around with bleach at home!

A hairdresser will sort this no problem. Head and shoulders will help fade the pink.

I use to have bleach blonde highlights. On one occasion my hairdresser tried a new toner on me. It looked ok for a few days but then I started to look like Boris Johnson. So I called her & she came to my house & quickly put another different toner on & left. Well when I rinsed it out I was all sorts of grey, blue, purple! I was gutted! So I came across this hair dye.

www.superdrug.com/hair/hair-colourants/permanent-hair-dye/knight-and-wilson-pureplex-natural-ash-blonde-801/p/751407#BVRRContainer

It sorted it all out! I was left with a uniform dark ash blonde/ light brown colour. have a look & read the reviews, it worked for me. Bear in mind, ash base tones on top of blonde can have a tendency to go a bit khaki coloured - although this colour didn’t on my hair.

And lastly, ignore your husband, they just love to whinge don’t they!

psuedocream3 · 15/10/2022 12:03

For what it's worth, just bleach alone only will turn hair orange, or yellow if left on long enough, You need a good toner to turn those tones into blonde. And if you didn't use a bonded bleach, then you really risk serious damage doing anything else.

I would say, either look at dozens of youtube tutorials to learn how to fix it, and what mistakes not to make, or head to a hairdressers for them to correct it.

I do my hair blonde myself, been there done that and learned by trial and error, I think we all do at some point. Also if you do correct it yourself by lightening the orange bits, a good toner over the top (Wella illumia colour is good but only use 6% peroxide to mix) and a bonding treatment if your bleach wasn't bonded and philip kingsley elasticizer to strengthen the hair. Also if it was all over bleach, I would do a shadow root to make it look natural, a normal box dye will work and use a mixing blush to blend/streak

KalaniM · 15/10/2022 14:20

After the initial orange patchiness, you actually needed more bleach, if you wanted blonde. Wash the pink out with lots of shampoos with head and shoulders, then re-bleach. Coat your hair with coconut oil before you bleach. It won’t affect the bleach but it will protect your hair. Then use whatever shade you actually were going for.

if you don’t want to do this, and you fancy it.. you’re in a strong position to go Red.

Mellowday · 15/10/2022 21:47

If you have a sallys professional product shop near you i would go there and ask.
I did that once and drove half an hour and it waa worth it. I rang rhem before I went to check they wd be happy to advise.
Or , hairdresser , which may be easier.

Spaceprincess · 16/10/2022 09:50

I'd go have it corrected properly. They will fix it.
If you are going to try to fix it at home, depending on condition you could bleach bath the pink out and try to tone it using something professional.
I'd avoid anything ashy toned on it as it is as they have green pigment in them and maybe not something you want to throw into the mix....
If you go brown you'll need to add red pigment into it first unless it's really bright pink.
I have accidentally dyed mine khaki in the long ago past trying to go brown from blonde....

Bleach doesn't wash out...

A lot of us have done some very silly things to our hair. I admit I laughed but have bags of sympathy for you.

When young I used to wear crazy colour. I bleached my hair ok and would then use colour. I found a colour mouse in blue/ black which I thought would end up with my hair a nice punky lime green. That would have been ok for me but it went a shit moss colour!!!!

My SIL told me later she thought it was deliberate. C'mon! I have had peach, Apricot, pink, red, so why she thought I would go to the trouble of getting my hair a shite moss green I do not know!

My mum was so used to my dramatic hair colour changes, she probably did not notice the moss colour (or had decided to say nothing!)

No10codswallop · 20/10/2022 13:45

I've just had this EXACT issue!! Semi permanent dark blonde (nice n easy is a good one but your hair is porous and it may be darker than the box colour. If that scares you then medium ash blonde will help)

It'll fade very quickly so you'll need to do it again in a few days.

And then superdrug purple hair mask.

Good luck! X

Bleach London smoky shampoo is also very very good!!
