Diptyque smokey/autumnal candles?

I'm thinking of spending some of my Liberty Beauty Drop credit on a Diptyque candle. I like smokey, cosy, woody scents (think burning fires or library/book smells). Which are the Diptyque fragrances that fall into this category? Is Feu de Bois like this?

Feu de Bois is VERY like that. It literally spells of a real fire place.

The Galliano collab one might fit the bill too. I think it's quite leathery but you might get a bit of a library vibe from it.

General autumal/ cosy I'd suggest Ambre and Vanille. They are both very warm, ever so slightly spicy scents.

As PP said, feu de Bois is literally wood smoke, it's amazing! However I am a total ambre addict, it's warm and spicy and amazing! Definitely recommend the candles and the room sprays, they're both so scented.

Smilelesstalkmore · 14/10/2022 17:32

Yes, Feu De Bois is exactly what you are looking for! I love it.

God, I wish I could afford Diptyque candles. I would have time throughout my whole house!

I'm a lover of woody warm scents too and have Feu de Bois, Ambre and Vanille and they're all gorgeous. Another couple to add to the list if you like those kind of scents is DS&Durga Portable Fireplace which is a very woody, smokey scent (I guess as you'd imagine from the name!) I have the car scent fragrance not the candle but it's really lovely. And finally my favourite ever candle is Safran from Byredo, it's warming, a bit leathery and sweet but not sickly at all I would heartily recommend that one.

oooh, thanks everyone! Looks like Feu de Bois might be the one to try first.

Oh and @Smilelesstalkmore , I can't really afford them either - but I amassed a load of Liberty credit expecting to spend it on the advent calendar, then decided against the advent, so am going to use it half on presents for me and half on presents for other people!

@SollaSollew are the Byredo candles worth the £££? (guessing you think so if it's a favourite!)

I've always found the Byredo ones brilliant and the scents really last so I think yes definitely worth it. I had a Tom Ford tobacco and vanilla candle which was probably the best for strength of smell but I don't think they sell them in Liberty. If you did want a cheaper option I've recently bought the White Company Fireside diffuser oil ( it was about £10 and a bottle lasts for ages) and that's lovely and they do it in a candle (I know I have a problem!)

I think you’d like Ambre

doublecleansed · 25/10/2022 13:07

I need to decide between Feu De Bois and Ambre!

Feu de bois smells exactly like what you are after, but I personally found it to be a terrible quality candle, really smoky and unevenly burning. Diptyque candles are made with paraffin wax so seem very expensive for the quality

ShhDoNotTell · 25/10/2022 13:18

Amber is my favourite too. It’s gorgeous.

Auldspinster · 25/10/2022 13:24

Muji do a smoky candle that smells a wee bit like Feu de Bois.

Midnights · 25/10/2022 13:29

Ambre is more warm and cosy, feu de Bois is very very smoky!

You can do two classic candles for £100 ish on the diptyque website - then you can try both!

glassfully · 25/10/2022 13:50

Feu de Bois has been a Christmas staple here for years. Last year I also bought Narguile and it was lovely, it smelled as expensive as it was.

doublecleansed · 25/10/2022 13:50

@Midnights that's good to know ...though even one candle is a luxury for me, and I have Liberty beauty drop credit to spend, so will be getting one from there (as it will kind of feel like I'm not spending £££££ then).

@Auldspinster I definitely read your post as "Muji do a candle that smells like wee" 😂

I've recently got Ambre and I absolutely love it! I wanted to try fue de bois but they didn't have a tester to sniff. I've heard it's very smoky so perhaps not what I'm looking for. Out of all of them Ambre was my favourite though, very warm cosy and autumnal.
