What to wear to London tomorrow

We're going to London tomorrow for a 2pm theatre matinee and then out to a "naice" restaurant for an early dinner.

I have two choice of outfit;

Casual black jumpsuit, white trainers, denim jacket, or

Black plisse smart jumpsuit, black boots, black fake leather jacket.

Really not sure what to go for. The boots are ok for comfort but haven't tried them for a long walk, let alone a full day out.

The trainers would be perfect, but not sure if the casual jumpsuit and a denim jacket is dressy enough.

Help please!

The fancier outfit with trainers is what I'd go for.

Comfort and pizzaz. And the less fancy outfit is fine too.

Londoners are pretty casual.

The casual black jumpsuit but maybe with the leather jacket.

Full day out, up and down tube stairs, escalators, definitely trainers!

Don't wear new boots for a day out in London. That should be advice you get in your welcome pack at birth I think. Either outfit sounds great so just wear whichever one you feel nicest in.

Both outfits sound great but I agree with others that you should wear tried and tested comfy footwear.

Apart from some of the old school, grand restaurants that have a dress code, it’s normal to dress pretty casually even at fancy restaurants in London. Especially for an early dinner. I remember years ago getting all dolled up in a nice dress to go to Nobu and everyone was dressed so casually; I felt so out of place!

You've got me convinced about the trainers!

Will try them with the smarter jumpsuit and see how I feel.

Thank you all so much for the advice, I definitely would rather feel comfortable than over dressed.

I always feel a bit apprehensive when I go to London, should I dress up, but everyone always said Londoners dress in all sorts so it doesn't matter - just country mouse syndrome I guess!

It's forecast rain tomorrow here too, so I'd definitely skip the denim jacket Smile

What I would be careful of is either light jumper or light scarf, just in case it gets cold. If you're hopping on and off a train and then in and out of venues it can get colder especially later on.

I wore lace up ankle boots for a similar trip last week and wished I'd worn trainers all day long. My feet ached at the end of the day. No one in the theatre was smartly dressed. Also, if you are nipping into the loo in the interval you are going to have to faff about with the jumpsuit.

Smarter jumpsuit and pleather jacket + trainers. Best of both worlds.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/10/2022 17:35

We're pretty casual in London - definitely west the trainers!

Stretchandsnap · 14/10/2022 17:38

Trainers - no one will turn a hair

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2022 18:22

Smarter jumpsuit
Trainers
Pleather jacket
Brolly
Scarf

Remus you have hit the nail on the head, thats exactly my outfit.

I tried all combinations on and that was what looked the best. Im just going to wear some dainty silver jewellery with it.

I'm so looking forward to it, I've been waiting to see this play since Jan 2020!
