Flattering swim shorts for women suitable for local pool?

Can anyone recommend some women's swimming shorts? I just want something plain black to wear to the local pool for DC swimming lessons that is functional, flattering, and reliably covers bikini line. Don't want really tight cycling short style ones. I tried the Boden ones I've seen recommended on here and they are OK, but a bit too short and ride up past bikini line once you start to move in them - also a bit too low-waisted to be properly flattering. Looked at Land's End but reviews say they make an annoying swishy sound when you move in them. I have seen a Nike pair on Next - anyone tried these, or have another recommendation that might beat the Boden ones?

There was a thread like this before and someone said they wore men's trunks - which seems like a great idea!

You would also get pockets! 😀

I was just coming on to say... men's trunks are the answer. Lots of styles to choose from. You can even cut out the mesh inner bit and wear bikini bottoms underneath if you prefer.

Sports Direct have some plain black ones

I bought this recently and it stays in place really well

I recently bought this and am happy with it. Not sure about 'stylish' or flattering, but it stayed in place when sea swimming on holidays and my 'old ladies having a laugh' synchronised swimming class I've just joined.

I'd not thought of wearing trunks or cutting out the mesh and that is something I might investigate, as I'd like some 'board shorts' for holidays, so these would be ideal.

I have no useful information, because the NIke swim shorts I bought this summer also tend to ride up the legs annoyingly when you move, but I just wanted to ask about the synchronised swimming class! Are you wearing a nose clip and making wavy flower shapes with your legs while remaining upside-down underwater for unfeasible lengths of time??? Respect!

BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2022 15:06

We do have nose clips and go underwater, but I think upside down with legs in the air is a bit advanced for most of the group right now.

Board shorts seem like a good idea, especially if they have pockets

Nippynopnop · 13/10/2022 15:23

Jazzy ones over a plain swimsuit would look good, and you wouldn't have to keep trimming your herbaceous borders, either.

rosesandferns · 13/10/2022 23:37

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't think men's ones would work for my shape as I'm quite short and curvy. And I can't wear a one piece boyleg swimsuit like the ones linked above for the same reason (need a tankini top with proper cups). I've ordered the Land's End shorts to try, just in case, but any further suggestions v gratefully received!

The Speedo tankini I linked to above has a 'bra shelf' that works quite well.

I'm a curvy size 16 with 34G bra size. Mine is an 18 because I was time limited when I bought it and that was the only size in stock that could have fit.

Few short ones here

ponygirlcurtis · 14/10/2022 06:54

I think it was possibly me who recommended men's shorts on another thread. 😊

OP, I am also short and curvy - I need a tankini for support too. I started out with a pair of plain black board shorts from Sports Direct and when they were done I struggled to find anything similar. Which is why I ended up with men's. Mine aren't long to-the-knee ones, they are still quite short - mid-thigh, I would say (I am 5ft 2in). I think it was these ones. (When we went on holiday in the summer realised I had got my 16-yr-old the same ones. Luckily different sizes so we know whose are whose. His are medium, mine are large! Blush)
