Acrylic nails - are these awful?

Passmethecrisps · 10/10/2022 11:51

I have never had acrylic extensions before so I just don’t know if maybe I am expecting something different.

I am going on holiday and wanted something short and elegant. I wanted the extension tips to even up the length.

I keep saying I wanted shorter but this was as short as she could take them. They are so very, very thick. And totally uneven. They feel AWFUL.

is there anything that can be done about these now? Is it my expectations which are off or is it the nails?

Unfortunately yes they are far too thick. The first time I had extensions mine were similar to these (she was just starting up). I had to go to a salon to have them removed and she had a right game removing them.

I would recommend getting BIAB gel on your natural nails, they grow extremely fast and you'll have long natural nails in no time.

BumBurnerBum · 10/10/2022 11:54

Yeah they are bad. Sorry OP. Can you go somewhere else and get them redone?

If you want short could you just get a gel polish rather than acrylic?

JorisBonson · 10/10/2022 11:54

Far too thick. They shouldn't feel too dissimilar to your natural nails. Can you go back and get them to fix them?

GetOffTheRoof · 10/10/2022 11:56

Oh no, go back and ask for someone else to fix them. They can be saved I think, by being filed down to an appropriate shape and thickness.

But yes, they are crap.

Passmethecrisps · 10/10/2022 11:56

Thank you so much. The salon I went to offers BIAB. I just can’t decide if I go back today and ask them to fix them. I can’t see anywhere else today that could do it and I am not sure I can go back. My cuticles are sore and bleeding. They were in good condition before

On the middle photo they look very very thick - the last one, not so much. I've never had acrylics much thicker than my regular nail (a few mm normally) but I have long smooth nail beds - are your natural nails rounder / have a high apex?

UnityO · 10/10/2022 11:57

They are bad - far too thick. I'd speak to the salon manager about getting them removed and your money back.

Definitely go back. I didn't want to comment on your cuticles before but they do look sore. Can't believe they've left you like this!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 10/10/2022 12:02

Go back, but don’t let whoever did these near you. Did you go to one of these cheap Chinese/Korean places? If so, don’t go back, go somewhere reputable.

Passmethecrisps · 10/10/2022 12:08

It is a chain place that offers one stop shop beauty treatments. Not a nail bar but one step up.

I have contacted them - I will keep
you posted

Oh. And now I have looked more carefully they have bubbles. So annoying. I just wanted pretty nails

OP please go back, they need to fix this for you. Show them the thread if you need to.

Menacingvern12 · 10/10/2022 12:53

Look into getting gel x extensions much kinder to nails and more natural looking, if you want to add length or biab if not. Most salons where I live no longer offer acrylics due to the bulkiness and damage they cause

Passmethecrisps · 10/10/2022 12:57

So! I finally managed to speak to someone. Very apologetic and has booked me in for removal and either BIAB or a gel polish this afternoon.

thank you all so much - I genuinely wasn’t sure if I was being fussy.

So glad you are going back, that's a really poor job unfortunately

Lndnmummy · 10/10/2022 13:28

OP if you see this go with BIAB, it will last better than gel polish on its own

TimetoGoTed · 10/10/2022 13:55

Try powder nails - they are so strong and look way better.

Lndnmummy · 10/10/2022 16:24

These are BIAB nails

Thank you all.

i went back and got the acrylics removed and replaced with BIAB and a gel top.

this is what I am left with. I am very much happier with what I now have but a bit sad that I am left with wee stumps of nails when I had reasonable ones before.

oh well. We live and we learn

I’m glad you are feeling happier OP.

Please don’t go back there. Your cuticles look really sore and on some fingers, they haven’t pushed them back or removed the excess. The finish on the polish is really poor as well.

WildFlowerBees · 10/10/2022 17:49

Even builder shouldn't look that thick, find a new salon they are awful, sorry op.

OhMerde · 10/10/2022 17:53

Better now for sure but what a mess they've made of your cuticles.

Passmethecrisps · 10/10/2022 17:56

I know it’s not ideal still but they look neat ish at least. I am going to whack on some cuticle recovery to try to fix them. I just about jumped a foot in the air when my hands were in the acetone.

The lady kept saying “next time you come they will be longer” and I am nodding and smiling thinking “next time I come hell will have frozen over”
