Hi, I've never been to a memorial service before. Does anyone know what is the correct protocol clotheswise? Do I wear black or are colours ok. I'm assuming smart?

I think you can’t go wrong with black smart. I wouldn’t go the whole hog with a black suit of shift dress etc though or you make look like an Apprentice contestant. Black skirt and jumper maybe? Sorry for your loss.

I went to a memorial service at a cathedral, so quite a large congregation. I wore navy blue . . . all the other ladies wore 'sombre' colours, dark green, black, grey, navy etc but many had floral or patterned shirts or scarves which slightly offset the severity. Hope the memorial service goes well 💐

Sombre colours - need not be black, but of course many people will.

Look at Prince Philip's memorial congregation to see what I mean. I'd probably wear navy, but other deep colours are fine.

For a memorial I would go smart and not bright but not necessarily black.
