I don’t know what to wear

I desperately need new clothes. I am very casual, jeans, t shirts, causal blouses, sweatshirts, trainers, flip flops. Mid 40’s, quite short size 12. I dont know where to shop anymore. No decent shops near me, I try and buy online, get overwhelmed/bored and just give up. I don’t mind my casual style but I just need new ideas. Can anyone suggest some outfits for this autumn/winter?

You on Instagram? Check out doesmybumlook40
Also, there is such a thing called LA street style. I had no idea! But it suits me. Casual but…put together?

Sorry, I'm sure that's all well meant, but why would you even suggest Bum40? Bum40 very tall, and wears mostly floaty dressy clothes, OP is a short size 12 and a casual dresser, how is that going to help?

Paddingtonthebear · 09/10/2022 21:22

I have seen bum40 and she’s very nicely put together but it’s not very me unfortunately!

I've started browsing whowhatwear.co.uk
Really good inspiration and great range of budgets per look

SimonaRazowska · 09/10/2022 21:37

What brands are you wearing now?

Uniqlo is good for basics imo

Crucible · 09/10/2022 21:54

Basically same problem, but unless someone presents me with a new wardrobe with absolutely zero effort on my part I doubt it'll change. It's pretty dire, I went right through the heel of a pair of socks that I have already sewn up today, no chance of repairing it. I was dressed entirely in cast offs today, apart from my trainers, which have a total of seven holes in the inside, but I keep wearing them as there are no splits on the outside. I hate it, but I'm running out of things now. I'll be watching with interest.
Hair needs a cut, it's slightly longer on one side (not kidding) as a barber cut it badly, now it's grown out it's obvious. Writing this out OP I see that I really do have to do something, but I too give up trying.

Wears my money on Instagram and blog has a more casual style a bit more edgy sometimes and sometimes casual walk the dog outfits. She has a mix of high street and more expensive smaller brands.

ouro8u9p34urfio · 09/10/2022 22:11

Agree with the suggestion of wearsmymoney. Her style sounds like it would fit. It really is very individual though. Whilst I love a lot of the stuff on wearmymoney - am quite petite and on me it looks crap but I like the ideas.

I like The Silver Kat on insta.

Rina66 · 09/10/2022 22:16

You might like The Silver Kat, great casual clothes from the High Street, styled well and she's petite too....

I know it's a bit overrated and not cheap, but IMO Hush is still very good for a casual thrown together look that is modern and fresh enough, and effortless

It's my fallback

I wish I was more adventurous but Hush ticks so many boxes (comfy, but not frumpy/depressing, lots of natural breathable materials, nice colours or neutrals, fashionable enough for someone who's not really into fashion GrinFootball).

Paddingtonthebear · 10/10/2022 16:03

Thanks, wearsmymoney on insta looks promising, except the dresses. I’ve dont mind some of the Hush stuff but always get put off by people saying it’s expensive for the quality. I’ll keep looking, any other recommendations on high street would be great

themumlifestyled does good casual wear looks

Thread is interesting- you put in loads of information and they analyse your style and then suggest outfits/clothes in your chosen budget from a bunch of different places. I’ve also enjoyed Stitchfix for sending me things I might not try on my own but work well.

Summersummersun · 11/10/2022 11:19

Hush have a sale at the moment, I have never bought from there before but I've recently had a big clothes clear out and am trying to buy less but better quality and really thinking about what I keep. I'd recommend the sale!

tobee · 12/10/2022 22:00

Yes I second Thread. I use Stitch Fix and Lookiero which are fine but Thread give me more ideas that stretch my imagination a bit more. There's no obligation to buy either.
