...but that are high waisted, don't show your knickers (ie aren't too thin), can be tucked into boots etc. trying to look smarter but I've never figured out trousers

I had a nice pair of wool trousers once, might be the sort of thing you mean? The slightly rough/matte texture keeps them from looking too formal.
Unfortunately they fell victim to moths after only a couple of years.

girlmom21 · 07/10/2022 10:51

Black jeans!

FelicityFlops · 07/10/2022 10:54

As a pp said, wool, or cords or velvet.

SalviaOfficinalis · 07/10/2022 10:58

Uniqlo Ultra Stretch High Rise Leggings.

Despite the name they’re not leggings, definitely trousers, nice and warm for winter, thick, comfy, stretchy, come in lots of colours.

I live in them all winter long.

ramonaquimby · 07/10/2022 11:06

I have the Uniqlo ones above. They are fab. I wear with chunky Chelsea boots or trainers.

Calandor · 07/10/2022 11:18

Trousers. Just get some slim fit ones

Purpleavocado · 07/10/2022 11:22

I love the uniqlo pull on jean trousers after someone mentioned them on here. I now have 5 colours! I sized up to Large - I'm a size 12, as the medium were too tight on the hips, and my hips aren't very large. The medium is slightly loose on the waist. They are so comfy 😌

Dandyrose · 07/10/2022 11:37

Ooh I'll check these out now thanks!

For work I have straight cut wool trousers, for out of work this year, I have pairs of navy and dark aubergine cords.

AuntSalli · 07/10/2022 11:40

Jean trousers were a thing in the 90s I used to have them in every colour to wear with my collared tight fitting shirts, it’s so funny the way fashion comes around again.

Lightattheendofthetunnel100 · 07/10/2022 11:43

Yes I was going to say black jeans too

ZealAndArdour · 07/10/2022 11:46

When I fancy a change from jeans I sometimes wear flared cords - most recent pair are brown ones from Topshop on asos.

Or a pair of hybrid jeans/trousers in a heavy sort of twill material with a pinstripe through the fabric which I got from Run & Fly.

And just recently have bought a pair of wide legged fuschia tailored trousers which I wear with a chunky belt and a quirky t-shirt/blouse/jumper.

And a pair of fuschia linear-crushed velvet wide legged trousers which I’ve been wearing with a polo neck and sweatshirt and some brightly coloured nike air max to dress the crushed velvet down a bit for day wear or just a simple ringer t-shirt.

I’m sure my style probably looks insane to some of the more sedate MN dressers but I’m having a great time wearing Liberace’s pyjama bottoms. I’ve thought about buying a second back up pair in case this pair go bald anywhere.

Hahahah!
I can’t imagine what trousers I would tuck into boots, but I just had a look on asos.
Couple of ideas attached, dunno if the OP is looking for workwear or just smart casual downtime wear.

Great thread OP, I'm wondering similar.

I've heard great things about Spanx leggings but they are eye wateringly expensive and I'm not sure about sizing

Where are Liberace’s pj’s from?

I love them!

They’re from In The Style via Asos - so “fast fashion” in quality, hence wanting a back up pair. They’re certainly not the worst quality but they’re also not going to see me through a lifetime of wear. I think they’re designed to last a season of being in vogue and not much more, but they’re a piece I’d actually like to have and keep for a long time. They also do a matching slouchy oversize button up shirt.

I think the website Nasty Gal have quite a lot of velvet wide legs trousers too in other colours as well as a fuschia.

Maxi skirt

FeralWitch · 07/10/2022 18:18

Thank you

Badger1970 · 08/10/2022 11:36

Regarding the Spanx leggings/jeggings, def upsize. I got an XL which is supposed to be a size 20/22 and had to give them to DD who is a 12 ... they are very very small sized. Try before buying as the online company I got them from refused returns - at £89 it was an expensive mistake Hmm

jeaux90 · 08/10/2022 11:42

Vegan leather joggers. I've got some in every colour they had from Suzy D London. Flattering, warm and I absolutely love them.

RiverSkater · 08/10/2022 11:50

Marks and Spencer do nice slim leg leg users that have plenty of stretch. You can dress up or down.

I'd say velvet joggers too or velvet trouser/ Jean.

SummaLuvin · 08/10/2022 12:00

don't fit the tucking into books criteria, but I have these and they are so flattering and go with almost everything, can be dressed up or down
