So I’m currently not going out because I can’t fit into any of my clothes.

of course I’m going to lose it any moment now - but in the meantime I rally just need to embrace it and get some clothes.

where do I shop?? I am big off bosom - average height - rally just looking for smart and stylish but not wanting to stand out too much.

happy to spend a bit but not masses (as going to lose weight ANY MOMENT NOW).

im feeling so overwhelmed.

thanks in advance!!

By fat size 16 I mean I may possibly stray into a size 18…

I like Hobbs, especially jersey dresses.

Wfhandbored · 05/10/2022 21:14

Literally anywhere! Please don't fall for the 'I'm bigger so I need to cover absolutely everything', nothing could be further from the truth. Wear what you like from where you like, just get the size that fits. I'm an 18 and I get the vast majority of my clothes off ASOS

Riverlee · 05/10/2022 21:14

I’m similar size and buy from regular high street stores..

Turmerictolly · 05/10/2022 21:14

Boden - has some nice going out clothes, Seasalt for everyday.

Fattybumbah · 05/10/2022 21:16

oh thanks all!!!

you’re right I just need to own it - I genuinely am still happy and comfortable in myslef - if just seem to have a few more bits sticking out - but you’re right - unless I wear a sack I’m not going to hide them!!

What are you needing them for? Work, going out, smart casual for weekend? What sort of lifestyle do you have, rough age range?

H&M, Zara, Mango, ASOS will all cover all of the above.

Might be worth looking at different outfits on different websites and then looking on Vinted to get a few bits for cheaper.

EntertainingandFactual · 05/10/2022 21:19

Agree with others. Literally every high st shop does a 16/18.
You can wear anything you like.

Fattybumbah · 05/10/2022 21:20

45 - need for out and about and going into shared office space. Nothing too formal.

i wish to look effortlessly stylish and put together.

and I’m prepared to put the hard yards in to achieve thst..

Sainsbury's often have some good bits, certainly worth a look if you have a big shop near you.

EntertainingandFactual · 05/10/2022 21:22

Just to add. Online, If the outfit makes the very thin model look frumpy, odds are it will not look good in a larger size. Other than that, you can shop practically anywhere.

Pickledcurlywurly · 05/10/2022 21:29

I get where you're coming from OP. I went up to a 'big 18' last year. While in theory lots of places go up to these sizes, they didn't always have the bigger sizes in stock or the same range past an 18. I was an awkward bra size (40 back) and also have short legs so needed a petite in trousers (that tend to stop at a 16 in most shops). A lot of plus size shops are more expensive and the clothes are made for tall people and everything swamped me.

So in theory, there are clothes for bigger sizes. But just not right for me.

I'm losing weight and down to a 14 now. I've got some nice stuff from New Look recently and I definitely think they're a bit more generous with their sizes these days.

FatMog · 05/10/2022 21:39

Marina Rinaldi or Anna Scholz if you're flush.
Otherwise: Simply Be, Very, Curvissa, New Look, H&M, Phase Eight, Boohoo, ASOS, Collectif, Roman...

I'm the same size as the OP and in Zara it's impossible to find a thing to wear. Their 16's are very small.

beccahamlet · 05/10/2022 21:41

Seasalt Jersey dresses get my vote. Fairly smart and comfortable.

thepriceoffish · 05/10/2022 21:41

If you need an 18 get the 18.

Hobbes8 · 05/10/2022 21:46

I’m 45 and a fat 16. I wouldn’t go near Zara unless you’re 8 feet tall. Next and Hush are quite generous in their sizing. H&M and new look good for cheap and cheerful stuff.

Try and have a kinder inner voice though - no reason why you shouldn’t look and feel amazing. Are you on Instagram? Fabfatand40plus does a lot of high street and supermarket fashion if you’re looking for ideas.

Fattybumbah · 05/10/2022 21:49

Thanks all

@Hobbes8 my dog is on insta and has just followed 😁

@Fattybumbah first of all, he is gorgeous!
Im the same size and age as you, I’m so glad you posted as I could do with the inspo. I have been trying to make myself as ‘invisible’ as possible for past 3 yrs since hysterectomy and even more weight gain. So I’m following for ideas (while trying to lose the weight!) to feel a bit better about myself.
Although I’m only 5ft 2, and most of the insta accounts always seem to be tall and I def don’t look like that, so it’s hard to know how to dress anymore!

Thatboymum · 05/10/2022 22:11

Boohoo plus size is fab I always have to size down with them and asos

Fattybumbah · 05/10/2022 22:12

Rina66 · 05/10/2022 22:24

I buy a lot of the Made In Italy one size clothes from places like Kit & Kaboodle, Manamou, The Thread Shed and Elsie's Attic.

Latest purchases are a couple of jumpers and a sweatshirt duster coat.....
