The Esska boots are certainly "interesting". Not sure if they are "modern" - the dress itself certainly isn't modern- it's got a very vintage, glamorous look to it , which is another reason for not pairing ugly, modern, boots (the concept of boots without toes is weird in itself, but I suppose each to their own) with the dress.
The brown lace up boots someone else posted would be an interesting contrast with the dress if they didn't have such an ugly block heel.
