Looking for a classic, brown, stout, leather winter shoe

...that is is not a trainer or a jodhpur boot or a hiking boot...if such a thing still exists.

Slip on or lace up.

Something non fussy like Princess Anne would wear to walk her dogs in a town park in all weathers, but at least 50% cheaper! 😄 Perhaps something a little chunkier to suit a heavier frame but not super chunky.

Low heel but needs a slight wedge or to be slightly built up, not flat to the ground like a brogue as I have high arches.

Why are so many winter shoes made in suede or calfskin?
I live somewhere where it rains a lot!

I am in my late fifties and wear very classic slightly flared dark denim jeans so they would need to go with them. Want something I can polish and will last.

i would be very grateful for any advice or ideas please.

Think these should fit the bill?

House of Bruar

Talipesmum · 30/09/2022 09:02

These might be a bit casual but they’re goretex lined so good for cold damp winters underfoot: www.ara-shoes.co.uk/women/models/loafers/36996/slip-ons-lissabon-nuts

There are loads on Clarks if you are male, or fit male sizes though…

I'm really grateful for these suggestions. Thank you!

That link isn't working for me Shangpie but I am fascinated by the shop as a whole! If I need a tweed skirt when I am older, I know where to go! 😄 Thank you 😀

And only one of the Clark's links working: but I tend to scrape patent and not keen on burgundy. But very much appreciate the suggestion anyway.

Thank you so much Talipesmum the shape and profile of those Area shoes are spot on! Interesting about the Gortex lining as they look a bit light for winter. I might try them! My only hesitation is the suede surround, as I am often walking on wet, slushy pavements, through wet leaves etc.

I am a woman btw 😀

And I'd be interested to know what other women in their late fifties wear for town walking. I have smart trainers but tend to wear those in summer.

Are you near a Pavers store? They can spray the shoes in a machine to weatherproof them.

I didn’t know that, thank you WalzingParrot and those look pretty close to what I am searching for! 🙂

Sorry that link didn’t work. Here are the shoes I meant to link:

TwoWeeksislong · 30/09/2022 12:56

Oh sorry I misunderstood. I didn’t realize you don’t want boots. I like having warm ankles 😂 so I forget some people prefer shoes.

eddiemairswife · 30/09/2022 12:56

Why do you only want one shoe?

Fishfingersandwich707 · 30/09/2022 21:41

EddieMairswife 😄

Thank you so much for all of these suggestions and links. They are definitely giving me lots of ideas!

My dds love DMs - they last forever - but I find them a bit clompy for me as I have skinny ankles. (About the only bit of me that is skinny mind you.)

I had forgotten about Timberlands, will have a look at the site, but again I am a bit worried about the suede finish and rain. Do they all have waterproof coatings nowadays or something?

Thank you very much for repeating HofB link Shangpie they are very nearly right, I am searching for a bit more of a wedge though.

Sorry I know I am being very particular. I will know it when I find it and very much appreciate the help from everybody!

lanxshoes.com/collections/womens-shoes/products/wilpshire-oxblood or any of the other Lanx shoes?

WrinklesShminkles · 01/10/2022 14:52

Not sure what your budget is, but something like this? Or are they too flat?

Solosunrise · 01/10/2022 15:03

I can imagine Princess Anne wearing these for dog walking (though tbh we'd probably wear hunter wellies in a rainy park!)

EvilRingahBitch · 01/10/2022 15:03

Haven't looked at all the links but these?

EvilRingahBitch · 01/10/2022 15:05

That's weird, I posted a UK Clark's link and it went randomly italian

Solosunrise · 01/10/2022 15:05

Well that's not good. I had brown ones in my original link I though. Anyway look at Hotter shoes as they might fit your brief.

Solosunrise · 01/10/2022 15:06

Same problem @EvilRingahBitch !
