Inspired by the ‘European women are just more elegant than Brits because they are thin’ thread. and also by how sad I felt reading about Linda Evangelista and her botched surgical procedure.
and also by a discussion with my hairdresser.
He does fashion photography, and he said: ‘Like 15 years ago, you’d go in any model agency and there’s a wall of headshots. Its 90% Eastern European waif girls with straight hair, then maybe five % Asian and Latina girls, one Nigerian girl with a shaved head, a pregnant, and a fat. Now you go in and its all diversity, the percentages are reversed now its only like 10% Eastern Europe waif girls, lots of curly hair, lots of fats and lots of ethnic diversity.’
And olds? I asked. ‘Yeah - loads.’ (love him).
I want to collate any fashion content that is the opposite of the mantras:
‘clothes just hang better if you are slim ’;
‘a tan just looks better’
‘XYZ is ageing don’t do it’
‘hoop earrings are chavvy’.
All bodies are good bodies. You don’t have to be rich, white, thin, under 40, under 30, European, tanned, abled bodied (insert here) to be stylish.
some content that makes me happy.
