Cotton velvet dresses for girls

We have a few special occasions around Christmas and I’d love a traditional festive dress for DD. Has anyone seen little girls’ party dresses in cotton velvet? Something like this photo but not in polyester. Budget up to £60 but would prefer to find it for less.

Is this from JoJo man bébé? If so it's cotton lined

I don’t think many, if any, are actually cotton velvet these days. And not under £60. Children’s Salon has a good quality looking one but it’s £86 and only cotton lined not cotton velvet. Similar to the one you’ve shown above. I’ve a feeling cotton velvet is heavy and bulky too.

Cotton velvet isn’t heavy or bulky. It’s fine for dresses.

I think OP what you are scared of is the shit that is velour and is described as velvet. Horrible stretchy slippy stuff.

Velvet doesn’t stretch. It is however very expensive, even in a polyester, it goes through a lot more processes than a normal
woven fabric which is what makes it so pricey.

I taught textile science for years. I think that Jo jo one is the best bet.

I’ve just bought 1m of cotton velvet for dress making. It was 13 quid. Add on smocking, manufacture, collar etc and it would be way more than £60.00

This looks sweet, I’ve not heard of the shop before but the dress does look cute

Vertbaudet and La Redoute might have that kind of thing.

Try Boden and John Lewis or a traditional clothes shop where you buy christening gowns from.

Duckskitbank · 27/09/2022 19:55

Thanks for all the ideas, I will have a look at them now. It doesn’t have to be smocked, a traditional style dress without smocking would be fine.

I got one like this but in blue for my little girl from T.K Maxx - they tend to get loads of pretty frocks in towards Christmas.
