How to wear a tunic in 2022

I posted this in the Seasalt thread the other day but didn't get a response, so thought I'd try again...

I have a couple of tunics (from Seasalt as it happens!) that I'd love to be able to wear this autumn / winter, but I can't figure out how. One is a navy blue needle cord which looks lovely with a polo neck underneath, and the other is a sort of dark green leaf print, shirt style one, which also looks lovely with a polo neck under or a knitted tank top over it. But what to wear on my legs?! I've worn both with jeggings in the past but I've otherwise moved on from skinnies now, but can't imagine how to wear them with wider leg trousers. Any ideas?! Sadly they're both too short to wear as dresses

How long are they? Could they pass as a mini-dress if you paired them with knitted tights and knee boots, or thick leggings and knee boots so the leggings look like tights?

Sadly not, I'm 5'6" and they're both more like long shirt length than mini dress length on me.

I’d get a tailor to slit them right down the front - thus turning them into gilets, which are hugely fashionable tight now. Then you can easily wear them with wide trousers.

How about straight leg jeans or slim leg?

stickybear · 22/09/2022 18:16

That's an interesting idea. One of them is button through actually so I could try wearing it open over a polo neck, like a shacket. I'll give that a go, thanks!

Hmm if they don't actually cover your bum fully then I'd say it would need to be skinny jeans or skinny tregging type things. I'm 5'7 but short bodied so tunics always come to about a couple of inches below my bum so I can wear leggings with them. I like tighter tops with flares, or looser tops/ tunics with a skinny leg shape, to balance everything out. What about a 90s boyfriend jean shape if the tunics are more like long tops and fairly fitted?

Yes maybe I need some smarter slim / straight leg jeans. All my jeans at the moment are mom or girlfriend styles and they look totally wrong with them Grin

I'd wear them with wide cropped trousers. Bit of a marmite look probably.

You know I think that could work with the needle cord one as it's quite neat and fitted and I do actually have some cropped wide leg jeans. The other one is much looser and might not work so well. Think I'm going to have to have a big try on session tonight Smile

Yup. A loose tunic needs something slimline in a leg and a tighter one needs wider trousers.
